I am curious if anyone knows what the tile game is, and what the yellow thing is supposed to be?

I think you're right about the mailbox... I see the word "post" (ポスト) in the text. Not sure about the tile puzzle... I had been thinking it was some sort of matching puzzle, where you put the picture piece in the space that has, say, the item's name or first letter or color... but then I spotted a used version of this item, missing a tile, on an auction site and there was nothing underneath.

Aaaaand I just asked my friend in France; he confirms the mailbox/post box, and he doesn't recognize that specific tile puzzle.

Thank you for the replies! It's interesting that it's a mail box because part of what I translated via a Japanese character reader seemed to hint that the girl was writing a letter to someone.

I think as close as I can figure it's a tile version of odd one out. (the apples, the cloud and umbrella, the bee and the flower, the grapes and cheese) the tiles leave just the poor fishy without a mate, and I honestly can't think of anything else this game could be.

Then it could be like an Old Maid or Memory Match game.
