I've heard that a major way to prevent staining on resin dolls is to rinse any dark clothes with vinegar. Does this actually help? And without damaging the clothes?

Vinegar can be used to help set the dyes in natural fabrics.

I haven't really done the vinegar thing myself, but I do make a point of hand washing, in warm water, anything I"m worried might stain a doll. If you use warm water and soap excess dye will wash out. Just keep doing it until the water runs clean and you should be fairly safe.

okay, thanks :) I'll especially try that with jeans. Denim can be a tricky little sucker :|

Synthrapol is a good detergent for absorbing excess dye.

hm, I'll consider trying that. There's a lot of information about it online but I can't seem to find any store in my area that sells it :/

I wash all my material & clothes and then do a vinegar soak to set them.
It really works! I have had dye running out of things, put them in the white vinegar bath and it stops
immediately.

If you use the vinegar method, does the smell settle into the clothes? If it does, what are some good methods to get rid of it?

nope, no smell with white vinegar, you rinse them after the soak.
