Washing felt clothes so they don't stain?

this morning i found a cute red hood that looks like it would fit Nadine and Natalie. it's made of felt and is soft to the touch! the problem is, when i wash it, i find that the water coming off of it is a deep pink. i don't want the hood to stain my dolls that much, so i kept washing it for a half hour in scalding hot water. the water did not turn ANY less pink. (if i let it sit for a while, the water comes out cherry red!) i'm so scared that the hood is unwearable without completely ruining my dolls. What can i do? it's such a cute hood!

You might try adding a dye fixative, like salt to your water.

Take it apart and use it for a pattern. I would not trust anything that was leaching dye that badly anywhere near my dolls.

Vinegar and laundry soap might help.
