FOUND: Plush body for floating heads tutorial

Postby Pandor » Sun Mar 18, 2012 8:52 pm

Once upon a time on 13doll someone posted a link to a tutorial about making semi-articulated (with those pop-bead joint things) plush bodies for floating doll heads.
This was probably back in 2008-09ish, so who knows if the site even exists still, but I was wondering if anyone might remember the link?
My googling has failed me. -_-

Found it! Here, for those interested: http://stoneeyes.com/dollmaking.html

Hi, I'm Ghostdollie. My other name is Stoneeyes, and, yep, that's my tutorial! I'm so grateful that someone still uses it! I make nearly all my bjds' bodies with this technique. I made the tutorial many years ago and since then nice vinyl hands and feet have beome available from Obitsu to buy separately. With that bead armature you just pop the Obitsu parts right on, no gluing needed. Even the vinyl heads pop right on. Yay! I'll be opening a web site soon with these bods and my own resin head sculpts for sale, but honestly, these mummy-wrapped doll bodies are pretty easy to fumble your way through, even for a beginner. And they cuddle and pose like a dream!

Oh cool! I can't wait to see your new website, Ghostdollie! :D
And ooh, thanks for pointing out that the obitsu hands and feet will pop on the armature without any modding!

DollyKim, that's awesome! Thanks for pointing that out. :) Next time I need some wigs or shoes I'll get an armature or two as well...

I may actually get around to making one of these bodies sometime. :D (Just waiting for my floating heads to appear in the mail first...)

This is amazing! I love this tutorial, and it's so well written! I don't see any reason it couldn't be used for MSD, and the 50cm Obitsu hands and feet would work for that just fine.

Aaaw shucks! I'm so glad you guys like the tutorial! Thanks! For extra creepy fun you can stick a resin taxidermy bird skull or fish head form on the bods, too! Pretty cheap from VanDyke's website. (I did this for a stop motion version of Christina Rosetti's Goblin Market).
