On simple and/or budget sewing machines

Long story short after past mixed experiences I got my first all mine no one else can touch it sewing machine, technically a mending machine, a Singer M1000. It reminds me of the Centennial Featherweight I first learned to sew on. It looks and behaves like a "real" sewing machine with everything enclosed unlike the hand held mending machines. I was looking for a basic machine for doll clothes and patchwork, no computers or fancy stitch things, and no suspiciously cheap on line imports that look like toys.

The M1000 is $100 or less, has basic stitches, the smallest strait one is a good size for doll clothes, is a bit slow compared to other machines but it gets there. Unless you're going to be doing fancy stitches it should solve all your doll sewing needs. The machine doesn't weigh much, even the metal cone thread holder feels heavier.
