Rubbish?! I do not THINK (so)! Yes, I speak a little Russian. I learned many years ago.

Except- ужасно- "oozhasna" - in this instance is used to mean, "horrible, awful, etc." Not referring to the storyline but to what is happening in it.
For instance, if I were to see you and say,
"Как дела?" (kak dela- roughly translate to "how are things?"
And things were NOT going great, you might groaningly say,
"ужасно!!!"
This all makes it seem like I know more than I do. I know a teensy tiny bit of Russian, took a year of conversational Russian at the JC, but the teacher was the head of Slavic Studies at Stanford. She came up to Santa Rosa one day a week because her elderly parents lived there, and so taught three Russian courses at the JC while there. She was an incredible teacher. Also from Moskva.

And Swan- I use this online Cyrillic typewriter:

I never had Russian classes in school... you had to have really good grades to get into them, and I never did have.

I spent the majority of my school years in hiding. I was bullied unmercifully and my school days were nightmare horrors. I'm amnesiac about much of it and what I do remember gives me m=nightmares to this day.

On the other hand I was VERY fortunate to have Russian friends (Part of the reason we were ALL bullied!) and later on, I worked in nursing and had a bunch of WONDERFUL Yiddish and German speaking patients, from whom I leaned even more.

I waited eight years after graduation to finally go to college because I was so fearful of the school environment. I thought surely I would be bullied there, too. Fortunately, no, I wasn't! But even today, at sixty years old, the sight of a group of children will send me to the other side of the street, or back the way I came, shuddering in fear. A child's laugh is almost unendurable. I had to really steel myself to read the incidents in MADh Vinyl with Mittens. I was a real life Mittens and yeah... it *changes* who you are, as a person. I wish I had had a Hyacinth to stand up for me. :) Maybe that's why she's one of my very VERY fave characters. I daydream that she had gone to school with me.
