Thank you, everyone.
I am very pleased with the scale of things I have found over the last few months (hurrah for thrift stores!).
I also used a DSLR with a zoom lens instead of my point and shoot for all but one of those pictures (#1). It let me get far enough away that zooming in kind of flattens out the picture, making any discrepencies (spelling?) in scale less obvious. I did have to do considerable post processing of the images because the auto white balance provided by the camera is not great.
The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th pictures were taken by lying on the ground (yay for yoga!) so the lens was about 15 inches off the ground. I think if I had used mostly overhead shots it would have been less realistic.
I will also say that my first pass at this project I chose 15 pictures for the story, and finally weeded it out to just the essentials (I took probably 60 frames this morning. Ah, the learning curve!)

Actually, that sounds about normal. I usually take at least 4 pictures for each one I use! I love how your fluffy dog came out! And the girls' outfits are gorgeous!

I could not work out how to save just an image of the paper (not every archived book/paper/whatever on Google is downloadable) so I ended up taking a screen shot, editing out everything but the paper's image, pasting the images into a document and printing.
