Kip Lightning screamed in horror at his defeat.
Meanwhile... back at the Cozy Den, the Pan-Eolande Snail Racing Championship's loser sulked.
"No parade. No roses. No autographs. No shower of riches raining down from the nobles." Kip pouted. "It's not fair. And what's with those two jokers anyway? Black Ribbon Riders my furry butt. They didn't even finish the race!" Kip huffed. "I'm finding my sister and I'm punching that guy for real. What kind of fox sprite does he think he is?"
"Rumor is the two riders that didn't finish the race are subversives in league with Prince Foster," the innkeeper said.
"None of my business," Kip said.
"Rumor is they found a way into the Jade Forest to make a treaty aligning the dragons against Regent Fee. They're going to start another war, I hear."
"Don't care."
"Troops are being sent, so I hear, to find the traitors and drag them to Capital Square."
"I'll punch 'em myself," Kip said.
"No idea how they'll even make it to the Jade Forest if they can't find a dragon to open the gate." The innkeeper smirked. "It's good for business, I say. My inn is nearly bursting with journalists and spies!"
"I'm sure." Kip frowned. He was pretty sure he saw a blind butler strolling through the woods with a small green dragon trailing behind him. I'll bet they opened the gate for those two jokers. Not that I care... but... what if Ina was with them? I can't let my sister get caught. Plus, I really wanna punch that guy! "I'm going for a ride."
After a ride, a dragon hunt, and demand for escort... (that blurred beyond one's capacity to use in any self-respecting photostory)
"Craziest thing I've ever seen," Bert the dragon said. "Took their tails and ears right off."
"THEY'RE FAKE!" Kip fumed. "My sister's dating a fraud!?!"
"Take me to them," Kip growled. "I'm punching that loser for sure! Maybe twice!"
Bert said, "Yep, I'm 100% certain they went this way. Just hop through the giant vortex of light. Can't miss it."
"How does it work? And how do I get back?"
"Beats me," Bert said with a belch of flame. "I heard the white haired one say something about taking a leap of faith."
"Lame," Kip said. "Loser's Leap if you ask me."
"Oh boy. That thing is big."
