#49 No Greater Love Pt. 2. Jillian to the Rescue!
Disclaimer: Violence, guns, lots of blood, and loads of amateur photoshopping.
“Ow, my head,” Ryan mumbled.
“My head hurts more than yours does.”
“What was that lunatic raving about?” Lee asked.
“I don’t remember.”
“Wasn’t it something about bloodsucking leeches being the bane of his existence?”
“No… I think it was more like, I’m going to stake… ah! Ivan!!” Ryan panicked.
“What happened here?” Jillian asked. “Why’s the door kicked in? Were you robbed?”
“Jillian, quick, you gotta stop that guy before it’s too late!” Ryan said. “He’s gonna stake Ivan! Hurry!”
“Drop the weapon. Hands over your head.”
“Put the gun down before you hurt yourself, girlie.” Jillian didn’t give him a chance to say another word.
BLAM BLAM!
“You actually… shot… me.”
“I need a medic. Damn it!” Jillian had neither unit nor medic to help her on this battlefield. She looked up at the tiny fairy on the bed, eyes tight. She’s seen too many wounds like this in her career and she knew it was hopeless even as she pressed all her weight onto the hole punched into Micah’s chest. “I can’t stop it. He’ll bleed out before help can arrive.”
“The vampire… his blood. Micah must take it before it’s too late.”
“You can’t mean…” Jillian blanched. “He’ll… be like Ivan?”
“No time to argue,” the prince said. “He will only turn if his heart stops. At least… that’s how it works in my world.”
“And if it doesn’t?”
“Pray it does.” Foster leaned his weight onto Micah. He knew that any healing he could offer would be insignificant. Without his amulet he was left with nothing but cheap fairy parlor tricks.
“That guy was so strong,” Ryan said. “We couldn’t do anything to stop him. He just busted the door down and was all like, judo chop and stuff.”
“This all started when the shaman cast a spell on Ivan and myself,” Foster said. “I need you two to find the totems and break them.”
“What do they look like?”
“How do you expect me to know that? Just smash things until Ivan wakes up.”
“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” Ryan asked.
“Abe was always bringing books over for Micah," Lee said.
“How do you smash a book?”
“Throw ‘em out the window or something?” Lee shrugged his shoulders.
“We could kill them with fire!”
“I’ll get the matches.”
“This is 0204, requesting one medevac, potential v-cross-over. No ma’am, a civilian. Asian male, 18. One casualty. Send special unit for the body.” She listened for a moment. “Understood.” Jillian closed her phone with a sigh.
