#30 Vargas and the Oathbreaker

Foster sits like a lump, wallowing in a mire of self pity and victimization. It's most undignified.
"Stupid exile. Stupid apartment. Stupid human sized furniture. Stupid ramen noodles!"
*slither*
"How the mighty have fallen, they have indeed."
"I wasn't crying! I wasn't doing anything!!!" *shriek*
"I thought you'd left for good." I'd ask about my family but that would be hypocritical of me. Stupid naga.
"Blessed Oracle, they've sent you to assassinate me. Am I not correct?"
"Yes."
"Direct and to the point, that's a new one for you. Very well, a duel? Or do you plan on striking this very moment." The fairy prince trembled. Vargas seemed decidedly less lazy and cowardly these days and he wished the creature would just find a rock in the sun and stay put like he was supposed to. Every fairy knew deep down that if the Naga ever decided to accomplish anything useful they'd be in real trouble.
"I have gone to and fro in the world with little notice, I have." Vargas said. "Fairies never pay attention to the naga. Rumor has it your brothers wish for you to suffer but the Oracle herself demands your life be spared. Your family is on the run but I could not find them. I tried, yes I did."
"My family?" Foster said. "Why would you... care?" Foster blinked. "Wait, you just said..."
"Yes. You are not correct."
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu... ridiculous naga!!!
"Very well then. Tell them I'm suffering quite a lot these days. That ramen is absolutely insufferable and the sweets on this world are atrocious. How must a fairy replenish his power without proper sweets?"
"You are a mean and nasty fairy. No longer a prince you are, and I can go and come as I please."
"Fine." Foster was just glad the naga wasn't sent to assassinate him. "Do what you want. I don't care."
"You're petty and cruel and you make underlings do bad things, you do. I don't have to do bad things anymore."
"Fine, then don't."
"So. You should apologize. And not do it ever again, no you should not."
"What?"
"Apologetic fairies make friends easier than mean nasty fairies. Friends don't tell currently-in-rule fairy overlords where their wayward brother is hiding. In secret."
"You wouldn't tell, would you?"
"Yes."
"Wait, yes you wouldn't tell or yes you would..." Foster rubbed his head. This naga was horribly unclear.
"Fine, just because I'm tired of hearing it. First Yukiko and now you? I am sorry for being a jerk. I'm sorry I made you work off your debt to me by hunting a miniaturized undead bloodsucking fiend of the night. I'm sorry you sent him to Santa and that you didn't kill him like I asked and I'm sorry I have to deal with his ever-present undead stench."
"That's not quite an apology, no it is not." Vargas said, "Try harder?"
"I'm sorry I call you names. You're not useless."
He waited longer.
"And for being mean and nasty and cruel and whatever else you want me to say. Isn't that enough?"
"Accepted, it is. This forgiving naga has brought the former prince a gift."
"I found it in the Tomb of Trees. It makes un-promises."
"Blessed Oracle, this is the Oathbreaker Leaf. Rumor has it, this can unmake any oath ever uttered, but nobody knows if it is even under the authority of the Godtree. But... it doesn't belong back home or here. What's it doing in our realm?" Can it unmake a promise made in haste, a promise against my brothers? Can it go so far as to unmake the war I caused?
The End
LOL... Venias and his promise leaf. Vargas just had to find an unpromise leaf. *snicker*
