Another 1920s handkerchief dress

They're too sexy for their clothing - but they have to wear them anyway! Did you buy it? Did you make it? Who cares - let'm strut their stuff here!

Another 1920s handkerchief dress

I finally finished a dress I'm calling "Smoke and Diamonds."
It is going as a donation to a local BDJ convention in San Jose, CA (Resin Hearts, Oct 3rd).
I'm really pleased with the color combination.

I probably posted an earlier version here a while ago. You can see it, at any rate, in the above referenced Flickr album.
It is based on a Madeleine Vionett evening dress.

It is made of polyester chiffon. I have taken to 'hot cutting' this kind of fabric (synthetic, frays a lot) with a soldering iron on a sheet of glass. I did use fray check along the seam on the skirt where the gray is inserted into the black. One sews the gray onto the black, then cuts the black away from underneath. I fray check right along the stitching from the underneath before I do the cutting away.

This dress, with double skirts, has 16 corners to miter.

Wow, I'd never even look at working with that much chiffon.

Beautiful. Chiffon is such a bear cat to work with. I love the look of it, but it always wants to slide away from me.
Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.
