Joan & her Victorian dress

This is my first try at posting an image so I hope I get it right! This is my Ellowyne Wilde 2 Wigged out who is now named Joan Wilder and my first try at making her a dress. I used a pattern from MHD Designs, the Robe De Fete. It's made up in a quilting material which was a bit thicker than regular apparel cotton and made the skirt stand out on it's own without need for a crinoline. I made some bloomers to go underneath and she has some knee stockings and mid-calf boots purchased from ebay. It's entirely hand sewn and I had to rip out the bodice three times to get it just right! (I still love hand sewing tho, even when it's a pain!) The lace and ribbon were inexpensive trims purchased from JoAnn's, same as the fabric. The lace for the sleeves came from a scrap basket at a local thrift shop.

I just previewed this and it's quite small, so I guess you have to click on it to go to the image to see it better.

What a lovely dress! You did a fantastic job on that :) I can't wait to see more of her here.

I so know what you mean about ripping things and putting them together again. I handsew as well and I had to redo one blouse four times at least until it fit right. Eventually it gets a bit easier :)

Thank you all for the kind words! I love to hand sew and occasionally (insanely) hand sew clothing for myself too.

I'm currently working on blinging out a medieval dress I purchased on ebay and then the next dress will be a Lolita. I've just finished gathering all the materials I needed for that. The fabric is black with red cherries and I had a time finding proportionate black lace! I'm in rural (not Bush!) Alaska and finding craft materials can be a challenge. (I love the internet!)

After that, I'm thinking she needs a fairy costume.

Joan Wilder? You mean *the* Joan Wilder?
Sorry...Romancing the Stone Geek moment.

The dress is fantastic!

*giggles* Yep. That's who I named her after! It seemed logical since she's a 'Wilde.' (Did I mention I'm an aspiring romance writer too?) Thanks!
