Sewing pants

They're too sexy for their clothing - but they have to wear them anyway! Did you buy it? Did you make it? Who cares - let'm strut their stuff here!

Sewing pants

Postby catshem » Mon Jan 28, 2013 12:37 pm

Historically, I've been butt awful at sewing pants. Then I watched the Froggy tutorial on pants and I've gotten better. So I tried some pants today and here's what I got:
Image
Mizuki is basically wearing mom jeans. None of my girls like the denim pants lol I tried them on Blade and they were too big for him. I'll either try them on one of the boys, or cave and go in and actually fix them. I can already tell that trying to make an elastic waistband out of denim wasn't ever going to work. I try.

The MH pants were great though. My machine absolutely hated the fabric (it's some flimsy, kinda stretchy stuff. think a formal gown might be made from this) so some of my hems are less than spectacular, but it's great and I think yoga pants when I look at them. I'm going to try and make another pair out of this material and see if I can do any better.

edit: included a link to the video for anyone whose interested.

OMG. Them pants look good.

I take my hat off to you. Sewing 1/6 tights is the furthest I ever went in the quest for 1/6 pants sewing.

You will probably never see me make highly detailed pants; with pockets and stuff. lol It's easier when the fabric is thinner and stretchy...but yeah, at the same time at 1/6 scale it just hurts to do and you go crossed eyed and your back starts to complain from hunching over the sewing machine... and slamming your face into the table sobbing.

I finished another pair in red:

These are sorta fudge-up in the back, but it works. I have to get better at this because Blade needs pants and my etsy shop needs items. lol

That is awesome. Thanks. I have just hated sewing pants so far, but I have dolls that desperately need clothes and this might help a lot!

*applauds* And you did it with a sewing machine.

I freaking hate sewing pants but stretchy fabric is more forgiving...I hate using stuff that freys easily. My girl either gets bought pants or only one or two pairs of homemade...And my current sewing machine is a kiddy sized singer. XD;;

The trick on waistbands with non-stretchy is to make the waistband only as large as the dolls largest circumference. This is often the hips, but with Obitsu sometimes the thighs are larger. Or - don't make them pull on, put a snap in the back! Then you don't need elastic at all!

and my seond pair that turn out slightly too large for MH, but fit Blade (there were half-naked Mh's dolls on the table. he was embarrassed)

I'm going to keep sewing pants this week until I can make it second nature!

Don't dread. larger size dolls give you slightly more leeway to work with in the crotch area (that sounds wrong). Go with just tights first if you want to build up from something easy. From tights, go to drawstring pants and then the dreaded button fly pants
