Flea control+bjd=??

Postby 1/6andtinylover » Wed Aug 31, 2011 6:20 pm

So my cat got fleas....AFTER she came back from the hospital and we've found several. Other family members seem to want to call the flea control people, but I'm kinda afraid of what they'll do to my dolls. Sure they probably dealt with Barbies and stuff but they don't usually break if they get thrown aside a box, do they. Also...do they use UV-wands? I'd be afraid of her yellowing if she gets subjected to that treatment for way too long.

I'm hoping that we don't have to call them at all, since we cleaned a couple of times and the bites seem to be getting less frequent.

My parent's cat caught fleas and they just used the over the counter flea bombs and they worked fine. Just a suggestion before they go and call in the expensive exterminators.

I use flea drops on my cats. Advantage is great. Fleas are gone within days. Don't even have to shampoo carpets.

I had no idea there was a 'flea control'. It just seems so odd. haha

Anyway, we use Advantage. It's great, kills the fleas great. It also kills some little derma-mite too. I had a similar situation a few years back, where our oldest cat had to go to the vet for an eye infection. The vets ocular lab is in the same section as the dermatology lab, so she caught some terrible mite while she was there. Those stupid things were terrible and so tiny!! We used Advantage on all the cats and sprayed the couches and carpet and everything with Lice Bedding Spray Killer (it's in the pharmacy section). Killed those things too.

If you are having trouble with your carpet, just use table salt, and vacuum it up a couple of days later. It dries out the fleas, larva, and eggs. And salt is like .50 cents!

I don't think the fleas would live on the dolls, they need a warm host to survive. So you should be fine. Was the cat in much contact with them? If not, I would not worry about it.

W00t! It's almost certain that we won't have to call them. Thank god that we take our shoes off indoors and clean a lot...it's just the basement that's still sort of a concern, but still.

Salt? no way, that's awesome!! If I ever have a flea issue again, I'm going to try that.

Yeah! I think it dehydrates them or something. Another pet/child friendly alternative that works on all insects is diatomaceous earth. That stuff works so good! It dehydrates them when they walk through it or any time the bugs get it anywhere on them. We had ants really bad in our cat food earlier this year, so I sprinkled it around the door and around the food bin. Killed them within a day. :D I got mine at the Co-op.
