Putting dolls into storage?

Postby Kd_Bunchanumbers » Mon Oct 10, 2011 1:13 pm

Okay, I was looking through my dolls and I figured I really wanted to to make my collection less... cluttered. I don't want to sell them or get rid of them, but I would like to put them away for more space...

The number of dolls I want to put away is in the ball park range of 50 - 80-ish dolls? Any ideas on the most efficient way to do this would be very helpful :)

Maybe wrapping them in tissue paper? It would be really time consuming though.. Don't put them in plastic baggys, I had a bunch of plastic toys and dolls in baggys during the yard sale we had. As the day progressed and it got hotter the bags started getting condensation on the inside, even though the dolls/toys were never wet. I had to open one of my NIB figures because he had condensation really bad, when I got him out he was all bendy and rubbery. Some of them weren't in the sun either, it was just hot out.

So I would assume the same thing would happen in storage?

I'd probably throw a cedar chip in there with them too, to keep any unwanted bugs out.

I have my loose Sailor Moon dolls piled in cardboard boxes...... and the ones that still have their boxes are back in their boxes which are piled in cardboard boxes. >_> I've got like 4 boxes of dolls in my room.
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

I have a thing called Cubeicals by a company called Closetmaid http://www.closetmaid.com/en-us/Search/ ... s&start1=1, they're fabric cubes that fit in to storage unit cubbies. They hold a surprising amount of stuff, all my Monsters fit in one drawer.

I agree in wrapping them in tissue paper (colorless) in order to protect them from color staining from one another - and from contact. Also make sure you DO NOT store them in a place where they will be subject to extreme heat or cold. Unfortunately when I moved back to Phoenix, my old barbies were in a barbie storage case in a garage for three years. Let's just say they were pretty much dessicated by the time I got them out again :( I recommend also storing them nude, so the clothing doesn't stain them over time. Oh, and wrapping them will also help to preserve the hair if it has style.

I do want to add to this topic that putting dolls in plastic containers for long period of time can damage dolls. The plastic containers give off a fume that can cause problems for many dolls. Even other plastic and vinyl dolls. You can even smell the fumes on some of the plastic containers on some of them.

I don't have nearly so many dolls as that, but I keep the ones I do have in Rubbermaid containers under the bed and a few are in a fishnet suspended from the ceiling with my stuffed animals. If they're going to be away for a while I strip them and wrap my resin girl in a padded bag that came with her, but the others don't get padding.

I have my dolls in cardboard boxes... cardboard shoeboxes are a perfect size for 1/6th dolliehs. I have one box labeled "Phantom of the Paradise cast" and it contains Swan, Phoenix, Philbin, Winslow, the Phantom and several exacting custom designed dolls. I keep the cardboard boxes INDOORS in my storage room to avoid excess heat or cold... in fact, I have one closet full of my dolliehs. :D

SOME day when I can afford to I'll think of doing stories again...
