Saving Saving Saving and don't forget saving!

Postby kmadame » Fri May 20, 2011 12:51 am

There's a rejoice thread and a waiting thread; but where's the thread for all of us painstakingly pinching our pennies for our doll loves! How about you all come in here and vent about all those things we can't have now so we can have them later, also what are you saving for?

I really want to start saving for my current dream doll Dollzone Hid but my father and family keep telling me to save for car insurance because I'll be getting a car any time now a reasonable request, if I hadn't been waiting for said car for five years. I also want to get a Bobobie Cookie to be Skylar's friend. Does one doll null out the other? Should I get the cheaper first? Should I even bother saying all this if I'm getting a giant gas guzzling metal death machine which means no money ever again!?

Haha. I so needed this topic. I'm trying to save for my first bjd but in the meantime I'm just graduating and working as a substitute teacher, I hardly have enough money to pay my bills, plus I have an astronomous student loan to pay back... yeah. AND I'm not very good at saving. The few pennies I had, I spent on cheaper Obitsus which make me very happy as well ^^. Haven't bought any new clothes for myself in MONTHS, but now that my two favourite pairs of jeans both have holes in them I think I should reconsider this strategy...

aaaaah, I can't even begin saving because I have a lot of expenses these days. I truly want a NotDoll Hot Citron but she's never coming home....sobs..And all the dolls I want are big boy dolls..Ah well, I still have to faceup a bunch of the kids I have at home so it helps take my mind off things....

Evelien, I'm just curious as to which BJDs you're looking at. In the Netherlands do you have to pay off your student loans right away? In the states we have one year before we have to start paying back. Another thing, it is summer in the states, what is the weather in the Netherlands? If it is warm you don't need jeans! If you put aside $10 a week, in 5 months you could get one of the cheaper MSDs.

I actually do really want one of the DOll LEaves MSDs so I might get one soon so I can get a free rabbit doll!

Haha, I love how you're doing some of the thinking for me. You're right, I don't need any new pairs of jeans for a while haha, even though Dutch Summers aren't that awfully hot. And yes, I have a year before I need to start paying my student loan back, but I also borrowed money from my parents and I want to pay them back first.

I'm looking at several BJDs, all of them are MSD girls, one more affordable than the other. I like some Doll-Love, Soom, Fairyland, Angell Studio and Iplehouse girls so far. I haven't made up my mind yet. But who knows, if a second hand bargain shows up, I might make that my first BJD.. we'll see :)

I haven't consciously saved since I was getting Lilly. In general when I switched to dolls I just thought twice about things I was buying, it made me drop several useless "hobbies", and I didn't eat out much. Weighed less and had doll money.

And I know what it is to have to save for something big that doesn't seem to be coming. And my attitude at the moment is 'like hell it will get here' because things keep screwing it up. So I just figure right now I'm not spending small amounts so I can get myself something big and nice.

Four times a year I work as a room supervisor for the Law School Admissions Test. Pays me $135 each time and that money ALWAYS goes towards dolliehs :) I figure if I'm losing a saturday then I'm doing it for dolliehs!

My next one is (I hope) a DragonDoll Ying in tan - such a cutie!!!

There are a crapload of new Monster High dolls coming out, the Bratz Masquerade which I might get just to steal their outfits, Alice: Madness Returns and Catherine on June and July respectively, and then SDCC at the end of July...

So yes, must save money. >_< I need to be able to get SDCC Ghoulia! And other goodies!

I discovered the joys of layaway, because I suck at saving. >.<;
A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. BJD collecting is as customizable as the dolls themselves. Do whatever pleases you the most, because otherwise, why do it at all? All for the 'Gram Bitches love the 'Gram.
