We found out about it early this morning when my daughter got a text from a friend who moved out to CA a couple of months ago and said they were okay because they were high up on a hill, but the news reports and video of Japan itself is horrific. I do hope that everyone here who has friends or family there find them all safe and sound!

Thankfully my friends in Japan are all okay.

Thanks for the link.

This is just...beyond understanding. I'm definitely praying for the survivors and those who are trying to help.

If people are interested, I've been actively watching this and retweeting info as I see it over on Twitter. I'm lizzkitt3h on there.

The biggest, scariest thing going on is the Fukushima nuclear plant problems that are going on in Japan. The plant's cooling system malfunctioned and they recently had signs of a meltdown, then an explosion occurred recently. Currently, #1 reactor at the plant has blown up and it's leaking radiation. The area has been evacuated already. It's been stated the plant isn't built like Chernobyl so that won't happen to that same level, but it's not good.

Been tweeting on this myself. It's pretty scary and that's an understatement. The fact that they're at the point of flooding the unit with seawater makes me feel like it's a last ditch effort.

Apparently Chernobyl went as bad as it did because the Soviets skimped on the containment setup, to save money. :!:
It says a lot for the Japanese quality of construction that things have not gone far worse, far more quickly. Still frightening, though, and it's not resolved yet.

Edit:
If any of you know folks at Hobby Link Japan, they have posted that the staff are all OK, but the offices/warehouse are a mess.
And if you are one of Maru's fans, his family have posted that he and they are safe.

Hello.
At first, I pray to people living in Touhoku area. :(
I have no problem now. My family and friends are OK, too.

We encountered many small earthquakes from the X-day (March 11)...wow, once again now.

I think you well know the situation of nuclear power plants in Fukushima.
One reactor is meltdown, and another reactor lost temperature control.
Because those power plants were lost, the east area of Japan lost enough electric energy.
Power company said that they will provide an energy with part-time. it start from today (Mar,14).
It means lifeline is down in some hours per day.
* water pumps, gas system, internet, and etc.. many system needs power supply.

I took some photos around my home (Chiba area) today.
If I'm able to use enough time (and power) for PC and net, I will upload it.

to Iwa_Hoshi
Thank you for remembering me. :)

Yah, I glad you're OK and able to check in!

This entire situation is just about as close to "worst case scenario" as can get and it absolutely makes me heartsick.
