Just knowing she name called at other people is disheartening. I was laughing at this for a bit, but honestly thought she might come around.

I didn't actually see what she said about my name, but I asked Storm about it when I came home from work and saw her comment about Dreamy being rude for it. I just didn't feel like making drama about it after she already deleted her post. Apparently she said something about my name supposedly being 'ookami' instead of OkamiKodomo. While yes, she's slightly correct, which I learned after doing research, though 'ookami' is usually translated as simply 'wolf' not wolf child, I asked my Japanese teacher if OkamiKodomo was correct, and he said it was. Considering he is actually Japanese, from Japan, (yanno, and not Japanese-American) I'll take his word over Dreamy's. >_> When choosing OkamiKodomo as my name, I chose it because I wanted the literal translation of Wolf Child. I did not want someone to look at it and think "child of the wolf" Yes, they technically have the same meaning, it doesn't roll off the tongue as easily. It's a bit more complicated than that, but I really can't think of a way to explain it that makes sense. It's the feel of it, I guess. I'm not a child belonging to a wolf. Bleh I'm rambling.

I'm glad Dreamy is gone, though really, the very first time she got snarky with VV I knew she was on countdown to implosion.

Hope I don't come off as a know-it-all or anything, but okami can also mean god, so it could also mean like a child-like god which is also a cute idea.

A lot of Japanese names can mean 20 different things depending on what kanji characters are used to write it. Drives me nuts sometimes when people translate the same name so many different ways and I just think "just leave it Japanese! Don't translate it!" Like Sesshomaru from Inu Yasha, calling him "killing pill" that was the worst one lol, but there were some other crazy translations for his name too.

Dreamy probably also wasn't aware that there are different...I don't know the word for this, but the way things are translated from Japanese into English... for instance, the British spell several words with "-se" at the end, like recognise, whereas Americans use "-ze"/recognize. Both spellings are correct as per their own school of derivation. (random web page regarding this: http://www.studyenglishtoday.net/britis ... lling.html)

Similarly, with Japanese, there is more than one "standard", so depending on which version you are using, the spelling translations will differ.

Sorry about that! My fingers just wouldn't....stop....

You're fine! The thing that makes what you said different from my understanding of what DD said, is that you're explaining the different ways it could be taken, rather than simply going "oh no you're wrong" which is what pissed everyone off about her/him/it. XD
This is the kanji I use to write it. It's what my Japanese teacher gave me, when I asked him to help me translate Wolf Child into Japanese and into kanji. It was part of a project we had to do on Culture Day; we had to choose a phrase and paint calligraphy of it. I think someone else in my class chose to paint 'man-eating squirrel' or something involving squirrels, because our campus was overrun with them.

An owl hunts from the tree in my backyard. We have loads of wild cats and rabbits in our neighborhood. I'm sure the owl keeps the populations in check. I call him Owly. I know, it's sooo original.

I loooove owls. They're such gorgeous animals. We once had a falconer come to our school to do a presentation for the kids with several birds, and we all got to pet her owl Ollie ^^

Oh good, I was hoping i didn't sound condescending. I never mean to be. I just burst at the seams with trivial knowledge and HAVE to let it out in writing sometimes haha Of course most of the time I just get ignored, but hey, sometimes people find me amusing or informative.

LMAO about the squirrels. It's weird... squirrels seem to like college campuses. Mine was like that too.

Your Japanese teacher sounds cool! I got really unlucky with mine. It was her first time teaching anything EVER and she had just come over the the states so her English wasn't that good. She treated her class as though we had no other classes :/ So she actually expected us to spend 3-5 hours a day on our Japanese studies and told us as much. She gave us ONE WEEK to learn to read and write the full katakana and hiragana alphabets! o_O I did it, but still think it was an unreasonable expectation.

Sad to say though most of my functional Japanese is actually the result of watching an insane amount of Japanese movies and anime lol.

My mom accuses me of being a traitor to my lineage because I'm half Chinese, half white hehe, but even though I've watched tons and tons of Chinese movies and TV series as well, I just can't pick it up... it's really difficult. My father is the one that was Chinese, but he grew up in Thailand, so Thai culture is part of my life as well, but i never learned any of that language either hehe. I would have liked to, but it just didn't happen. My father was a very hard worker, so he didn't really have time to teach us.

My hubby Larry and his buddy Chey. Larry takes care of Cheyenne for the falconer that used to fly him; she doesn't want to really do falconry anymore.

I can call Great Horned Owls to me. We probably rehabbed and released twenty or thirty owls over the years, the only ones I would NOT take were Great Horned babies (I'd do adults) because there was another rehabber who had a non-releasable female who was a great, and I mean terrific, foster mom. She actually fostered ten owlets at once one year!

We don't rehab anymore, there's a gal with a much better full-time facility just down the road. Plus, we are old and tired.

Well, Misty, I can certainly see where the idea for one of your trilogies came from! :)

When I entered this hobby I was emailing ki-ki for as much info as she had the time to share :P (I have no idea if she remembers me and if so meep, I didn't want you to think I was stalking you >_>). Then went up and down the internet for tutorials and dos and do nots. How anyone can enter into something and assume they know anything without actually having, in Dreamy Dolls position, a doll on hand and done anything with it, is beyond me. The idea that flying out to your faceup artist and basically stalking them is... what? How would you think that is a good idea? No faceup artist would allow that, that I can imagine anyway.

I was laughing at all the conversations with an "I can't believe this," and then she started insulting members and that was like, yeah no.

Goodbye child! We will not miss you and your attitude.

OH GAHHHHH!!! Just what you wrote reminds me of that girl who did the face-up on her bjd with markers...it was so horrible!!! She ruined the doll and just said, "Oh well, I have another head coming for it anyway...."

DollyKim wrote:Den of Demons is a different forum then Den of Angels, it's smaller and more cliquey and has different rules, you either have the want to hang out there or you don't give a hoot.

DOA isn't that bad if you don't get in too deep, you can keep abreast of company events, who problem traders are, and get useful user pics of dolls before you buy. Just be ready for a lot of special snowflakes floating around.

But the thing about Den of Demons is that it is mostly the same people who are snarky on DoA (or at least used to be, haven't touched the place in probably four years, and even then just for an instant). That was a real surprise to me. I figured it would all be folks who were like the anti-DoA, but in fact, it's basically the same, only with dirty language and snarky pissing contests. It's like the Perez Hilton of the BJD world.

DoA is fine as long as you stay away from the "ELITEISM/REVERSE ELITISM" threads which will just make you want to blow your head off because they go ON AND ON and never ever get anywhere.

But the individual threads for the different dolls are actually very friendly and nice. I mainly hang out in the BBB/Resinsoul threads (AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH- cheap chinese ugly dolls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and the Planet Doll thread, although lately not much anywhere.
