Dolls. An excuse for making things!

I've always wanted to try binding a book.

So here is the 1st attempt: wrong glue (too damp), no fancy end papers, unpleasing paper (aka: copier paper). The cover is leather salvaged from a thrift store jacket. I did not put cheesecloth over the sides of the signatures, I just treated the 1st and last pages as endpapers and stuck the cover on.
I sort of used this page as a reference:

I sewed three little bitty signatures. An even number would have worked better.

It is wider than I think pretty. It is a pretty big notebook, even for a 1/3 scale doll.

I might just go ahead and trim 1/2 inch from the width. I need to change the blade on my rotary cutter anyway, so why should it not do final duty on glue-soaked leather and paper?

For the book binding, use PVA glue. That's pretty much the only thing that has been holding together my hand-bound sketchbook... and that poor thing has put up with loads of abuse. Well, PVA glue and waxed string. ^.~

For a 'perfect' bound book, use hot-glue and an iron. ^___^

Spent about 4-5 hours working on the thing for the Summer Swap... still not finished yet.

>.> It's more detailed and with slightly different materials than the ones I've made before, so it might take longer than I thought to finish it... Might not have time to work on it again until Sunday because of work, though.
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

A Change of Hair by richila9098, on Flickr
I redid the wig using hair for extensions instead of yarn. It uses the wig cap that I crocheted and is much easier to work with than doll hair. She gave me hair from her stash-so I got to experiment. I will be looking for inexpensive sources.

cross-posting because no one seems to look in the custom creations forum hehe
I had been posting pictures of it in progress for the last few days.

And here it is all finished up sculpt-wise. Also played with sticking a few of my homemade eyes in there too for some pics. The features are a bit uneven and it's not perfectly smooth, but odds are that it's going to get messed up anyway at some point in all the experimentation, so I don't want to get too much more attached to it...

Table

I want to do all the messy staining of wood at once, so I figured I'd start the little table.
I was not sure of the scale, but I think it is OK.

I'm just holding the table top on the legs: the rest of the 'lumber' for underneath the table is on the desk there in front of the table.

My second little book is much better than the first one I made the other day.
