"This would still technically be advertising sales outside of the MP. However, if you wanted to post something along the lines of 'Hey, bring anything you have that you want to sell' there would be no problem with that."
So, were you the victim of a double standard? Maybe you could politely point them to this post and ask how you should have worded your request. That is if you want to play their game.
