I never understood why people liked peaches until I finally had a fresh, tree-ripened, local one a couple of years ago. Holy wow, they are wonderful. :shock: I spent the next week gorging myself on peaches. Thankfully they are good for you.


Oh yes. I don't even bother with the ones at the grocery store. I wait until the farmers' markets and load up on baskets of 'em. There's a grove half-way towards Ocoee, TN that's just to die for. It's at this four way stop that I can't remember the name of, it's just a fruit stand that I stop at every year. The scent of peaches hangs in the air and it's just heavenly.

Ohh! Hahah you may not (or you may, I dunno) find a recipe online. But my version is basically a can of cherry pie filling and one of instant (add eggs and water) cinnamon coffee cake boxed mixes. Next time I make it, though, I'll use a sugar cookie or snickerdoodle box mix. Or maybe I'll use a vanilla cake mix and use the cookie alteration of it. I got the idea because I wanted something with cherry pie filling but I didn't want cherry pie. Mostly because pie involves way too much effort. And I remembered my ex's mother made this thing she called "Dump Cake" which involved a boxed cake mix and some canned fruit. So I improvised. Serve up with some vanilla ice cream, and it's a pretty tasty dessert. Or in my case, breakfast.

I second quidam, this thread is dangerous! Now I want ice cream and tart!
I love to cook and I often bake jam tart, cookies and chocolate cake from "scraps". Sometimes also sponge cake, but it take soooooo much time T_T but I'm not really fond of sweets.
The ones my parents gift me in January 6 (in Italy we celebrate the Epiphany with sweets and sugar charcoal) usually lasts for months and I like Nutella only in a thin layer on a huge slice of fresh bread. I'm like SetsunaKou and her family XD But there are some, like the jaffa cakes or anything almond-based, that makes me go crazy!
My hubby, on the other side, loves almost all sweet treats, and he is the major cause of cookie extermination in our house. Now I bake only when we have some guests (and never tried shortcuts like the cheaty tart or the microwave chocolate cake) because with him cakes disappears too fast (and he accuses me to make him put on weight -_-)
Anyway, I still feel guilty for the huge bowl of cream with powdered cinnamon I ate XD

OkamiKodomo- I did actually find some recipes, but none sound as yummy as what you do!Most of them used something like canned crescent rolls on top.
Though I did find a really good sounding one, that was cherries on the bottom with a mixture of chocolate cake mix, chocolate pudding mix and a stick and a half of melted butter on the top. I love the combination of chocolate and cherries. (and lots of butter! :lol: )

Oh boy, this thread is making me hungry!

As for myself? I'm Italian. To me that should say everything about my willpower. I also cook. Healthy is lightly fried foods. I have willpower in certain situations. When I'm cooking it flies out the window. At least my entire family is like that though. :P Nothing beats catching your grandmother sneaking out onto the porch at 5AM with an entire tray of your freshly made stuffed pasta shells.

Or catching your uncle with his actual HAND in your Marsala chicken, eating it straight out of the fridge.

At least I know my cooking doesn't suck...? :lol:

Anyone else cook and have grabbygrabby family???

When my mom makes fried chicken, biscuits and gravy it's impossible not to pick at everything as it comes out. Man oh man, my mom makes the best gravy.


EDIT: Guess who went to Publix again? Bwaahahahahahahaaa... giant cherry turnovers. Hmm... yes.

Haha yesssss! :lol: Another "picker"! Sometimes food tastes the best when you pilfer it directly from the source as it's cooking, doesn't it? ;)
