Somewhat appropriately dug out my slightly battered looking (but somehow it plays fine despite all of the hideous looking surface gouges
) second hand LP of The Labyrinth this evening (only the one track has any crackles - which is pretty good going when the gouges go perpendicularly across pretty much every single song and are visible without even holding the disc up to inspect). Gods this is one album that sounds awful on digital - all of the atonal/purposefully out of time stuff done on the extremely 80s sounding synth stuff for the film hasn't transferred correctly to my CD copy at least... (Which is weird when you think about it - surely this stuff existed as a digital file first?)
Eh - Bowie has never sounded right on CD, though there is one CD package I regret not picking up back in the day. I still maintain that the RRP was extortionate - but it now goes for several hundred pounds, and since it includes a live album you can't legally get anywhere else it's only going to continue to rise... (Station to Station's super deluxe 5CD, 3LP and DVD package - though in consolation I do have a copy of the RCA CD at least.
)
Ahem - I've just about gotten to the point where the particularly personal Bowie tracks no longer induce tears, though I confess I've had to bite my tongue at the irrational anger that comes up when anyone dismisses the man or his output! Bowie's totally unexpected death has really felt like a family member passing away. (And sadly there's been quite a few in recent years so I can compare morbid as that is.) Gods and talking of sadness, my heart goes out to his family - especially Iman, her Mother passed away a few days ago now. I can't begin to imagine what that must be like.
