This aren't really my yay, but it made me go yay anyway.

I have a friend who worked at Walmart and hurt his knee. He didn't get any help for it except a brace from Walmart. He later quick because the work was hurting his knee, and the harassment he got because of his sexuality from the anti-gay marriage petitioners that had a table outside the entrance.

After not being able to find a job, and his knee getting worse, he was finally able to get Walmart to pay for the doctor, and he might even get back-pay for the work he missed! I'm really happy for him, he was limping pretty badly and had no way to pay for any medical help.

yeah, he should have filed a worker's comp complaint when it happened. that would have taken care of the medical bills.

It probably would have happened but Walmart is notorious for not taking action without pressure. To the point the manager pretty much went "Meh" and handed him a knee brace after the bandages he was using weren't helping.

Similar situation happened with my husband. We both used to work at Walmart, same shift. The manager called both of us to the back office and YELLED at him for busting his knee. Saying that WE caused the whole store to loose that quarters bonus!! Ridiculous.

I am pretty sure you can file a workers comp claim on your own.

Actually, companies with over a certain number of employees are required by law to file workman's comp when an employee is hurt on the job. When I worked in the pharmacy, one of my coworkers got a stern lecture from the store manager for not letting her know about an injury (I don't remember what -it wasn't terrible, but they did end up at the doctor's the next day) right after it happened.

Walmart tends to discourage that stuff, and takes advantage of the fact that many workers don't know their rights. My friend should have done something sooner, yes, but he is 20 and noone told him he was legally able to. My father was the one that told him.

And yes, I know that companies are required by law to do so, but Walmart- blah, trying to explain this is just making me depressed, nevermind. Ignore the yay since apparently it isn't actually yay worthy.

the point is, you should know your rights and fight for them, rather then depending on a manager or a company to do it for you. (if I get this manager's job I'm prolly going to need to learn all this stuff anyway.)

oh, did I mention I had a pretty good interview for a manager position at a buffalo wild wings they are opening in my very small town? its going to be nuts for the first 6 months to a year because other then bob evens, there's no where else nice to eat in an hour's drive.

Sure it is, he's finally gotten what he should have. And now he knows his rights. Good for him!
