Plenty of laws. Doesn't mean some of these slumlords will follow them. Our current place broke building codes from the day we moved in. We got lots of promises from the landlord that he'd fix it. But our water heater is still drywalled in under the staircase, and inaccessible. We still have a broken drain on one side of the sink, a hole in our bathroom wall, and a patch done on the dining room ceiling that is threatening to give way, among other things.

I owe my Dad a whole case of his favorite beer as he volunteered to help our sorry bums this weekend finish home improvement in our house. I had only emailed him for suggestions on doing it ourselves the easy way and he was like "N-no, I'll come over."

I just about died laughing. My mom told me last night at the store she works at there was a bat and her coworkers and customers were all screaming running around trying to get it. My mom was armed with a feather duster.

I have fallen in love with paint. Golden Fluid Acrylics. I've been using Liquitex Basics all this time, and while they're still good as far as they go, I've been slowly building up a collection of better supplies. I bought a bottle of dark brown a few weeks ago, and was thrilled. I picked up black and white yesterday while shopping... I love them. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to Basics. XD

I remember when I was a teacher's aide, during a meeting, a bat flew out of the air conditioner. I guess we must've disturbed it. It flew around the room a bunch of times, there was a lot of screaming and squealing (not from me, I was trying to help catch it), and it finally landed on a teacher's shoe and clung there. lol He sort of hopped to the front door without scaring it off again and let the poor thing outside.

At my current job, we used to get a lot of those big-ass lunar moths flying in through open windows at night, attracted to all the light. Most of them were light-colored but a few dark brown ones would get in and everyone would freak out and start screaming "Bat! Bat!"

I'd be like, "yeeeaaahhh, bats ALWAYS beat themselves silly flying up against the halogen lamps." It caused a bit of excitement, anyway. And I always thought the moths were really pretty, especially the golden, brown-spotted ones. We don't keep doors and windows open anymore. For safety reasons. Because a *gasp* burglar might get in and rob us all! </sarcasm>

The big green ones are Luna Moths, the big brown spotted ones are Cecropia moths. The big brown ones that are arrowhead shaped when resting are Hawk Moths.
