Probably not illegal in the Netherlands because there aren't as many lawyers. Some kid in the US probably choked on one and sued the company. So now they're not legal.
Sometimes I wonder how I survived my childhood in the 1960s without all the laws to prevent me from killing myself by climbing trees, sliding down metal slides, playing with toys with tiny parts I might choke on, sliding down the ice patch in the middle of the school yard, and so forth.

Where is this, Dollykim?
Nice photo, by the way.

Actually Kinder eggs are illegal because of the FDA. They don't allow anything inside food that isn't consumable (i.e. the toy in kinder eggs), that's probably why wonder eggs have candy in them. It's stupid, and there's a $500 fine on them if you try to import them into the US.

Now I want one.
But yeah- probably the reason they can't have anything but food is because (see above) some kid choked on something- sucker, etc. that had a toy in it. Or broke a tooth. Or something like that.

Anyone ever heard of those cakes, I think especially in UK, where they bake little charms into them? For Christmas, I think, or birthdays. And finding a charm is good luck. Would never fly here in the US. But my friend used to make them.

Oh! When I was a kid Wonderballs had toys inside them! They were little teeny disney characters. I remember when they started putting stickers/tattoos inside the boxes instead. :(

Is that why there is no toys in cereal now?

@cirquemom It's near Barstow off Highway 58 near the Lenwood exit, you can see it from the highway on the other side of the tracks. The intersection is Old 58 and Dixie.

As for surprises in food I think they still do King Cakes in Louisiana for Mardi Gras. The Kinder Egg thing I think has to do a bit with people just not paying attention and stopping myself from a rant.

Eh? I'm sorry, but I'm offended by this. Very offended.

Having "not as many lawyers" shouldn't have anything to do with a country's laws and regulations. Are you kidding me? It's all a matter of mentality. As if we can't think straight here. Less lawyers does not equal less intelligence. So by having less lawyers that means we can't take care of ourselves and our kids. Riiiight. You realize we probably have the same amount of lawyers proportionally because we're a tiny country? Can you please think again about what you said..? I'm really hoping the words just came out wrong.

We're not some third world country. If anything, Holland is more progressive than the USA. But I know the USA will only see that as a bad thing so I might as well not even mention it.

When my American friends were over this Summer, they were astounded by the "lack of safety" on playgrounds and the ability for monkeys to run free to be petted in a zoo. I'm really happy I don't live in America, here at least people aren't anal enough to sue when they put a cat in a microwave because the manual didn't say it shouldn't be done.

I don't have the words to express how offended I am by this. I'm not even that much of a patriot but still. I didn't expect this from you cirquemom :(

For Mardi Gras in New Orleans they still make King Cakes with the toy baby in it. Traditionally the one who gets the baby buys the cake for the next year. There was also barm brack a traditional Samhain bread/cake in Ireland, you were to put a coin or some token inside and like you said it was considered lucky to find it. I usually make barm brack for my grove for Samhain, but since we have young children in the grove I don't include the token. ^_~

Evelien said in a way. I feel a big problem in the US is the lack of parental and personal responsibility but then people say they don't want big government. ~stops a rant~ To deal with my feelings o the issue of me so litigious I had to write a character in a story who sues every chance she gets. As it's an Xavier story she gets cumipitance.

For the barm brack is there a way to stick a special piece of fruit in it? Or a piece of candy? I need to make a loaf out of clay for my Dollzones being Xavier's birthday is on Samhain and his muse is of Irish decent.
