so i'm not sure where to even post this, but i guess it makes the most sense here. i was so excited i had sent sondra celli an email about doing a commission for my soo dark elf loralei and she responded. i got the final price quote today, and i'm not sure if i want to cry or not. i'm sure i'm scratching my head in disbelief. the quote i recieved for my minifee a sweet or classic lolita dress was 450 dollars. that's more than i paid for loralei even if i include the shipping. i understand you pay for quality and i have no problem paying for beautiful clothes for my girls, but 450 just seems like a lot. i don't know if i can justify that kind of a price for a single outfit. i could finish paying off both my layaways and the last 2 wigs i need and a couple outfits for that price. ugh!

Is the zero a mistake? All that for a ruffly kimono, what am I not getting? Then again I've never spent 3 figures on one outfit.

no dollykim the zero is not a mistake. sondra celli does the clothes for the gypsy shows on tv and her adult work is exquisite. i was looking for either a sweet lolita or a classic lolita dress. the price she quoted me was 450. i know i would get a beautiul quality dress, but as i said loralei didn't even cost me that much. there are also so many amazing dress makers in the community that i could commisson for far less and still have a beautiful quality dress. a perfect example would be the fairy outfit roguewolf128 made for me, it's just past the point of awesome.

Not to be rude, but you asked a TV star designer for a quote for a commission. She properly quoted you TV star designer prices. I'm surprised it wasn't twice that.

Now you know, so go and commission someone who will charge something you can afford.

Holy crap, that is an INSANE amount of money for a doll dress!!!!

Is there any chance she thought you meant a dress for an actual person, not a doll??? Does she ever do doll dresses? I've never heard of her...what does it mean "gypsy" dressmaker. As in...for actual gypsies???

It's not a "fame went to her head" thing asking that price - it's a "this is what I value my work at" thing. I admit I had no clue who she was until I googled her, but seeing that she is a famous designer I'm not surprised at the quoted price. Keep in mind too that she designs for humans - doll sewing is different and may not be something she really has an interest in. Her price could also be her way of saying "I don't really want to do it, but if you pay me this much money I will."
