The mysterious dryer vent leak has been solved. When they installed the new (second zone) heat pump they ran the condensation drip into the unused dryer vent.....

Words fail me.

Oh, I don't believe that, Misty - I'm sure you had plenty of colorful words that sprung to mind (and lips) when that trick was discovered.

To be fair, the original house owners used PVC sewer pipe as the dryer vent. Which could have been taken as a drain pipe. Though you would THINK that the exhaust flexi-duct leading from it to the outside would have been a clue.....

The girl who sold me her Obitsu Gretel for $125 added the shipping ($50-something) to the value on the customs papers. She wrote down that the value is $180!!! Damn it. :( As if I'm not gonna have to pay enough. :( She didn't do it on purpose as she didn't know how it works, but it still sucks :(. Now I'm gonna have to pay the tax % over the amount for shipping twice :(

Well you are not going to be able to get a replacement Gretel for less than $180. And if your Customs knows anything about BJDs they would not accept $125 for the value.

She actually sold me the doll (old and stained) for $125, I know that's not what she was worth new but the previous owner was of the opinion that that's what she is worth now... I'm sure customs will see that. Would they really charge me more than I actually paid for her just because they think she's worth more..? It's not like she would have lied if she had put $125, so I don't really understand your response.

I know I've made a great deal here and I'm very happy with that, I consider myself very lucky. I didn't mean to sound like a spoiled brat... did I? It's just that every € is a big deal for me. And if I have to pay a higher amount of customs charges because of someone else's mistake, why can't I at least be slightly pissed about that..? ;)

You're welcome to be upset about someone else's mistake. Then take a deep breath and think about all the fun you're going to have with your new doll. Some you'll pay too much for, some will be a bargain, it will all even out and the joy you get from the dolls will be priceless.

As for my gripe it looks like my eye lids are swelling up again from seasonal allergies I developed this year. :( Everything around us is in bloom. It's not comfortable and not pretty but I'll live.

Take a look at the Shipping and Customs thread over on DoA. Lots and lots and LOTS of people are getting charged huge amounts at Customs. Some of them are actually paying more in Customs fees than they paid for the item they bought. Customs agents in many countries are getting used to seeing BJDs going through, understand now that they are "luxury goods", and they can arbitrarily decide to charge you whatever they feel like. You have the option to challenge that by presenting a receipt, but that can be a difficult process and will generally take months to resolve.

Also, the value on the package is not just for Customs, its to show the replacement value if the item is lost, stolen, or broken. If something happens to the doll, you will at least be able to get a replacement.

You're both right. And taking the risk is worth it, I'll LOVE this doll, I know that for sure. Hey, if I didn't want to pay for customs I shouldn't have bought her, right..

And it's true, it all evens out eventually. I have collected over a 100 6" vintage Pamela Love dolliehs the past year. Some of them I picked up for 20 cents, some - new in their box!! - for €1 each, where some totally bait dolls would go on eBay for €45. Sometimes it doesn't make sense at all :P

My summer class scheduled has been changed not because I wanted it to. My Graphic Design Principals class was canceled because I was the only one who signed up, & my math class wanted me to buy +$300 in books. I've withdrawn from the math class to take it another semester when I can save up for the book expense. So my class schedule is now: Film Appreciation, and Speech and Communication Principals. Not what I was aiming for, but still classes I need to take for my major.
A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. BJD collecting is as customizable as the dolls themselves. Do whatever pleases you the most, because otherwise, why do it at all? All for the 'Gram Bitches love the 'Gram.
