I didn't actually see what she said about my name, but I asked Storm about it when I came home from work and saw her comment about Dreamy being rude for it. I just didn't feel like making drama about it after she already deleted her post. Apparently she said something about my name supposedly being 'ookami' instead of OkamiKodomo. While yes, she's slightly correct, which I learned after doing research, though 'ookami' is usually translated as simply 'wolf' not wolf child, I asked my Japanese teacher if OkamiKodomo was correct, and he said it was. Considering he is actually Japanese, from Japan, (yanno, and not Japanese-American) I'll take his word over Dreamy's. >_> When choosing OkamiKodomo as my name, I chose it because I wanted the literal translation of Wolf Child. I did not want someone to look at it and think "child of the wolf" Yes, they technically have the same meaning, it doesn't roll off the tongue as easily. It's a bit more complicated than that, but I really can't think of a way to explain it that makes sense. It's the feel of it, I guess. I'm not a child belonging to a wolf. Bleh I'm rambling.

I'm glad Dreamy is gone, though really, the very first time she got snarky with VV I knew she was on countdown to implosion.

Hope I don't come off as a know-it-all or anything, but okami can also mean god, so it could also mean like a child-like god which is also a cute idea.

A lot of Japanese names can mean 20 different things depending on what kanji characters are used to write it. Drives me nuts sometimes when people translate the same name so many different ways and I just think "just leave it Japanese! Don't translate it!" Like Sesshomaru from Inu Yasha, calling him "killing pill" that was the worst one lol, but there were some other crazy translations for his name too.

Dreamy probably also wasn't aware that there are different...I don't know the word for this, but the way things are translated from Japanese into English... for instance, the British spell several words with "-se" at the end, like recognise, whereas Americans use "-ze"/recognize. Both spellings are correct as per their own school of derivation. (random web page regarding this: http://www.studyenglishtoday.net/britis ... lling.html)

Similarly, with Japanese, there is more than one "standard", so depending on which version you are using, the spelling translations will differ.

I know what you mean. It's one of the biggest beefs I have with 'fanganese': the lack of understanding about linguistic differences.

....Okay, after deleting three of my own rants, I'm gonna leave it at that. :?

The only reason I ever really wanted a male BJD is because I wanted to find one that resembled Bowie so I could make the costumes and have my own Goblin King. I have the original Labyrinth poster and the stand up publicity ad thing they gave out for video stores in my room. I walked 8 miles up and back to see that film and it was worth every darned step. The soundtrack is still on my media player today and I listen to it all the time. They really need to make a big doll of Bowie, period. I would so buy one even if I had to save up $500 to do it. Labyrinth and owls, yeah, but also Harry Potter. Isn't it amazing though how iconic that film has gotten though? Most critics didn't like it. They had NO idea of how long a reach it would have. It's a total classic like Oz and everyone I've ever known that's seen it loved it.

When I was married, my husband and I bought a telescope to look at the moon and stars. We would go up on the roof of our building (20+ stories) at night to look at them. We lived not too far from Central Park.
One night we were up there, and a snow-white owl flew by on its way, I suppose, to the park to hunt. It was huge, and it did not make a sound. It's wings were totally silent. I will carry that image with me always.

Oh, that would be awesome, to see a white owl flying at night. Maybe it was Jareth? lol

And yeah, I agree. Labyrinth is totally a classic. It inspired me to write my novel Shadow King, an epic poem about three pages long, and like six or seven NOVEL length fanfictions. ^^; No other movie in the world has ever inspired me like that. It's just ... THE perfect fairy tale, and Jareth is the perfect anti-hero.

Speaking of which, there was a Doll in Mind mini me of David Bowie a few years back. Someone on DOA painted one up to look just like Jareth. And he REALLY looks JUST like him. It's amazing!

I am SO jealous of the owner, you have no idea. lol

Once I was driving at night through....I think it was Colorado but it could have been New Mexico...anyway, I was driving at night and suddenly on the side of the road in my headlights this frigging GINORMOUS owl swooped down and caught itself something to eat! I will never forget that sight even though it only lasted a few seconds because it was so incredible and huge!

There is also an owl living in my parent's neighborhood and it has had chicks that like to sit on the neighbors fence sometimes. Unfortunately I am never there with a camera when it happens ><
