Moving into a new home

I'm moving into an apartment with a friend on Saturday. It all just hit me that I'm finally leaving home. Even though it's in easy biking distance from my moms place I can't help but feel a mix of excitement and worry. This is my first real foray into adulthood, I won't be able to just depend on my parents for food and internet anymore. That also means money's gonna be a lot tighter, doing away with the habit I seem to have developed earlier after getting Lafayette of ordering dolls within three to six months of each other (This also was helped by the fact that most of my dolls were $200 dollars or under, the exceptions being Genevieve and Usagi). I'm looking forward to having a place with my friend and have already drawn up a preliminary budget, but I still feel very unprepared. Usually to quell my fears of the future I'd play around with, brush or clean my dolls, but they're all in their boxes in the car waiting to be opened in our new home. So I have to make due with my body pillow which thankfully hasn't been packed yet. Expect a long photostory when I get moved in ;). Thank you for taking the time to read my random and mixed up thoughts spewed into this post.

What an exciting time!! It is really wonderful being out on your own for the first time. Wonderful and scary. Don't sweat it. I still feel unprepared sometimes. The budget is the wisest and most responsible thing you can do. That you've already got one sketched out speaks volumes of preparedness. Keep a savings account and no matter what, don't touch it. I was able to float through six months of unemployment because of my savings. Well, that and I sold a few stocks. Good luck!

When I moved out of my parent's home for the first time I was 19 years old and I moved from Hollywood, FL to Hollywood, CA (with my cousins)! Being an easy bike ride will be a plus for those times you feel like getting away from being away. Trust me, you'll understand. Sounds like you'll be close enough that the bouts of home-sickness will be easy to deal with.

And yes, learning to work within the parameters of a budget when you are young is the best way to make it a life long habit!

I bounced back to my parents home 2 or 4 times in my lifetime. But being on your own is a great feeling and it sounds like you have made solid plans and responsible choices. Congrats!

Congrats :) You've started planning, which is a good step, and you can always ask for advice if you need it.

And just remember, being an adult doesn't mean you have to be serious and not have fun anymore. Just make sure the bills are paid and try to save something.
