Update From The Mad Scientist: Top Secret Project Revealed!

Postby WhiteDove01s » Tue May 19, 2015 3:52 am

I really have no idea where to put this. There are several places it looked like it would fit, and it IS doll related. In the end I just played it safe and put it here. If it would be better elsewhere, please feel free to move it. Anyhow...

This is a bandanna!

This is a bandanna next to a quarter.

For a whole lot more on this, including washing tests, please see my blog here:

This bandanna is 4 inches square, meaning in 1/6th scale it would be 24 inches. Since the standard size of a bandanna is 22 inches, this leaves just barely enough room to hem them if wanted (and which I haven't done to mine yet because after sitting on this project for so long I'm WAY too eager to share.)

These are now available for sale, and I have plans for a lot more to follow.

So... what do you think?

I just started with wanting a bandanna for at least one of my dolls... and stumbling over Spoonflower, and it kind of snowballed from there. Why go through all the setup just to print out a few for myself? I figured I'm probably not the only person who'd want some. Plus I really like doing graphics in mini (like everything else XD), so maybe this will go somewhere. (I hope)

They print up four to a swatch, and a swatch in any of their fabrics is $5, with $1 to ship anywhere in the US (and they ship a lot of other places too). $6 isn't that bad, even on my budget... tho the first test swatch was split with the Evil Overlord. We each got two bandannas. I'm now sewing a hem on one and going to use fabri-tac on the other to compare which looks better. XD

... then I get to put up with my dolls fighting over who gets the first bandannas. XD

I'm saving up to order my first full-collection swatch book (30 patterns). I just did the black first as it seemed the best to test the print quality with. In just bandannas, I have sorted into that first lot of 30:
A black-only pattern on white.
A white-only pattern on black. (picture the above one with the red replaced with white too)

and the pattern in black (where the white is on the black one above) and white (instead of red) on the following colors:
Primary Red, Coral Pink, Safety Orange, Chocolate Brown, Safety Yellow, Hunter Green, Navy Blue, Cornflower Blue, Primary Blue, Grape, Rose Pink

(The rest of that lot is taken up by gingham checks in 3 sizes (a 1/6th equivalent of '1 inch', '1/2 inch', and '1/4 inch', and a rainbow plaid I made on a whim and liked.)

And those aren't even all the colors I'd LIKE to add. (I really wanted to squeeze Tyrian Purple and Magenta bandannas in the first lot, but ran out of room) I'm just going to keep building up as funds permit. :)
