*THE* Wig (x-post)

Postby AlmySidaKay » Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:28 am

I'm working on saving up for my first 1/3 girl, (a Bobobie Rachael). I have been reading about some tips and tricks, like starting to get some clothes & shoes for her early. And then I realized.. she doesn't come with a wig. I started looking at wigs, and it came as a shock, I'm not sure what color hair to have her wear! So, I'm wondering how others picked their first hair color or style, and why they chose that one specifically? Basically what made you decide s/he was a blonde, brunette, or redhead with long, short, buns, or ponytails etc?

Before I got my first BJD I started sort of collecting low cost wigs. Of course back then it was a bit easier to buy second-hand ones on Ebay so I'd get them for around $10 until I had a handful that I liked. If you can get on DoA's marketplace that can be a great source of wigs that won't break the bank.

Then when I got the doll I started trying them on until one just looked "right". Even today I still will impulse buy a wig that I think looks cute and then later find the doll to go with it. Of course now I have a stash of wigs hahahaha. I actually still have bald dolls at home that I haven't found the right hair for, and others for whom I've bought multiple wigs >< Very frustrating, but it happens :) The key is to not feel like you are married to the first wig you buy - you might see one later that you like better and so you'll change her - that's the joy of resin dolls - flexibility in look!

I think I've personally picked out the first one I wants color, (wine) just can't figure out what style yet now. And.. already plans for a second wig, assuming I can find it, a dread lock wig. I've just really been enjoying seeing other peoples thoughts about wigs.

Check the Bobobie database on DoA for Rachel pictures to get an idea of what different wig styles look like on her. But really, doesn't matter. These dolls are greedy and demanding and she will end up with at least two wigs anyway. ;)

I've been haunting every forum I can think of for photos of Rachael. 99% of photos I seem to find are all of darn Apollo.

Outside of Taffy I've known who everyone looks like as a character before I buy so I knew what hair they needed.

Shi Shi went through a couple of black wigs before the black and purple mix he prefers came our way. Xavier pretty much sticks to his black one, he used to dress up with a white one to be an angel but doesn't like that wig. Djibriel has had the same auburn one but I ordered her a slightly darker color which waits to be seen if it will work out. With the twins I know anything in a certain color range will work so they have 4 they share. The 1/6 gals have seven to chose from.

There's nothing that says a doll only has to have one wig.

My dolls are original characters and i know what they look like. Everyone usually sticks to a particular hair color, but Shriara and Nefertari have multiple wigs in their haircolor-each a different style.

Like others, I'd already drawn pictures and stuff of how I wanted Dess to look before I bought her, and I managed to find the PERFECT wig for her. However, she has a spare that I basically bought on a whim (I was in Japan and they were cheap). The same is true for Alice - actually, Dess's spare was originally supposed to go to Alice, but I liked the short blue one on her much better. Cal's took a little more hunting - I knew I wanted a black one for him, and since I couldn't find a fiber style I liked, I ended up going with a fur one. Still not sure on it, but I might neaten it up for him a bit once his body gets here.

As for my 1/6th dolls, Thomas/Faye/Frey/whatever (he can't seem to settle on a name) got his to match an anime character. I went with the style I did because there were very few choices for him. Marina's was just picked because I thought it was really pretty; I'd originally thought about getting her some spares, but it's nearly impossible to keep the one she has on, and I've kind of had a hard time bonding with her. I think I prefer rooted hair and painted heads for that scale.

Chae-ri's hair is pink because she's based on a character I created...but the original character's hair was darker pink, and long and straight. Ri-ri's "default" wig is light pink, short and fluffy (as shown in my av).

Ri-ri also has a plethora (seriously, about 20) of other wigs, and not all are pink, either. What's the point of having wigs if you can't change your hair to match your outfit? XD
