a question for the mods and fellow members

Postby kittyasauras » Fri May 13, 2011 6:46 pm

A few days ago I was bored and was flipping through the forums on here and on DoA, but I noticed that some members (not naming anyone here, fair and just) that are banned (or marketplace ban) from DoA are on DS and some have created marketplace threads. :(

That goes to show, that you really have to be careful and do research before making an online purchase. BUT some members don't have access to DoA. Or don't really think about it, or some other reason.

But at the same time it would be unfair to ban a member from the market place here on DS for the actions done on another forum. Or even know if it is the same user with a different name seeing as how you don't know the persons isp.

A catch 22 situation. What do the other members of this forum feel about this situation?

I think it would depend on the reason for the ban, if it's someone who has problems making payments or shipping or selling dolls they don't have etc I'd like to know. If it's an arbitrary DoA reason that's different.

I don't use the Marketplace much, here or on DoA, nor do I pay much attention to it. I guess I'm admitting to slacking off on my duties of keeping all our registered users safe from nefarious tricksters selling their vapor wares.

I have bought a few things from people here and on the old 13Doll Marketplace, but nothing much over $20, certainly less than I've lost to hucksters on ebay. If I was going to buy a doll, I think I'd have to know the person pretty well. Of course, what can you tell from posts? Who knows when the "plant" is suddenly going to go bad and disappear with your money?

Am I going to look into any of this? Probably not. I'd expect to hear some complaining if someone got cheated. We'd have to do some banning but it would be up to the individual involved to take it up with the appropriate law enforcement agencies. That's why I was a big fan of postal money orders: get the Feds involved.

Also considering the number of people who have been arbitrarily banned from the MP for heinous crimes like posting a picture of something they are currently selling in another thread.....when the DoA mods themselves do that all the time....

Yeah.

Honestly, I'm not a member of DoA and as a buyer/collector of wretched, inferior vinyl and ABS 1/6 scale figures, there's no reason for me bother jumping through hoops to join. I have no way to check their list of banned members nor to investigate the legitimacy of those bans.
So, I have no reason to arbitrarily punish people for the crime of being arbitrarily punished at DoA. HOWEVER, if you are aware that a member at this forum has engaged in fraudulent or deceptive trade practices, we need to know. You can always shoot a PM to a staff member if there's any concern. If you have personally been the victim of a transaction gone bad, it's always possible to post in the Feedback forum and let others know of your experience.

Late wading in here, but here's my take on it. VV and Mlatch are right in that DoA can conceivabely ban a person from their marketplace for some of the most inane reasons - some of which are just nitpicking. That said, however, they ARE a good way to double-check before buying from someone over here - but only IF you can be sure it's not someone else using a same user name. What I recommend to any user here about to do a purchase is if you are unsure of the person, contact a mod here who you know to be a member at DoA and ask them to see if the person is banned in that marketplace for you. I'd recommend either myself or Cirquemom off the top of my head since both of us are semi-active members at DoA and both of us use the marketplace there.

As Mlatch said, if you know that someone who is a member here has actually behaved fraudulently in another forum (whether it is DoA or another), please notify myself or a mod. to the extent we can, we will look into it. We will not punish someone for behavior in another forum, but we will keep an eye on transactions to make sure the behavior does not occur here :)

In case anyone cares, I just got Marketplace suspension over at DoA before I even got access. Apparently I wanted access too fast. It just means that I wanted to see which second hand BJDs were offered too badly.. after asking about access they deleted 30 of my posts and suspended me for a month. Excuse me for not having anything useful to post there because I don't have a BJD yet, plus every possible question I had has already been answered there a million times. I don't know what to post there to get access.. so never mind.

Please note that this does not make me unfriendly and untrustworthy -_-

Yea, some of their mods are "overenthusiastic" to say the least ;p I've had the same thing happen - with questions I've asked being deleted just because someone else had asked it a million years ago. Wouldn't be so bad if their search engine worked better. The only really good way to get one's post count up over there is make nice comments about other people's dolls in their galleries or photostories, or go in the workshop area and make comments in there. I virtually never ask questions and I've been a member there for years ;p

!!! that's OTT. (over the top) Evelien, In all honestly the prices arent very different from what you would normally pay anyway. I've been trawling for some good deals and there are only 2-3 good deals for dolls I 'm not that interested in. Most ppl there sell stuff for crazy amounts of money (like volks stuff other ppl couldn't get their hands on or soom/luts limiteds). Some ppl also up the price a little because they had to pay shipping for the doll.

The MP is not what it's hyped up to be. I mean once in a while you might find a good deal but it's not often.

That's what I did. And 30 of those got deleted for lack of usefulness, even those I asked questions in. Apparently I was posting too fast (20 posts in 3 hours), which equals spamming. I'm quite fed up tbh. Landwhale, if you're right, I'm not gonna bother. Heck, I might not even go for a BJD lol... I might get a big Obitsu once I have the money. Too bad the 40cm ones are more expensive than the 50/60cm ones, I think 50/60 is a bit too big for me... even though I'm really really tall myself for a girl lol (6'3").
