1/6 Wig question..didn't know where to put it

Here's the thing, I have a wig that fits perfectly on several of my "kids" (they've been calling themselves my minions again)
but no one will wear it because the hair is terrible. The color is wrong, its super course and cut badly.

So my question is: Is there a way to take the old hair off and put new hair on the wig cap?

I don't have any hair wefts or know where to get them, I just have the hair that is from dollyhair or restoredoll. I do have the hair I would like on the wig cap for my girl....but for the life of me I can't figure it out! I pride myself on figuring out how things are done or put together, but this one is beyond me.... :?

So can someone help me? I'll give a free pale blond wig that no one wears (so its basicly bran new)and I don't remember why I bought it.

Thanks :)

Yes you can :) There are a couple ways to do it but all of them start with removing the current wefts from the wig cap. Pretty easy to do, just get a seam ripper and start breaking the seams on the inside that you know are holding the wefts down.

Once the wefts are removed you can put new hair on in one of two ways: make wefts yourself or "ventilate" the cap.

An easy way to make wefts that I saw someone on DoA do is take some similar colored yarn and cut it into lengths for wefts. Take your hair strands and pull out about 5 to 10. Fold in half as if you were going to root the hair, but instead what you are going to do is knot it around the thread as if you were doing a latchook rug. I don't have a better way to explain that I'm afraid so you may have to look it up. Just keep doing that along the yarn until you have a weft the length you want to sew back on. Repeat until you've enough to make your wig :) There are other weft making methods out there - if you google you can find them, but I always thought this one sounded easy to me.

Ventilating is the technical term for putting hair directly on a wig-cap - it's the method used by professional wig makers and it's not hard, just time consuming and takes a bit to get the hang of. Remember how I mentioned knotting hair onto yarn as if you were doing a latch hook? Well that's basically what ventilating is only you are going to knot the hair directly onto the wig cap!

Or, third option is to buy wefts that are premade :)

I've seen a weft making tutorial which has you fold tissue paper over the hair tips then sew to make wefts. Buying already made wefts might be the way to go, check Monique and other wig suppliers. Or you may find a wig somewhere like on a junk store doll with good wefts you can steal.

I don't know if this would work for doll wigs, as this is a cosplay wig supplier, but heres another way to make wefts using silicone caulk http://www.pettingzoowigs.com/wigtutori ... wefts.html
I imagine doing it for doll wigs, you'd make sure the hair was in a much thinner layer but otherwise it could probably work.

I can do the slip knot method...don't know why I didn't think of that before... if I have to buy a wig or pre-made wefts I will, but her hair is a custom blend color so the slip knot method or weft making is what I am going to have to do.....but I don't know what thread is holding the hair and not the "darts"......am I going to have to make a wig completely from scratch? I don't know what to make the cap out of....poor little Calico needs her proper hair.....

-is making a wig via ventilating- It is VERY time consuming. But the results are really pretty. You can make a ventilating hook from a large sewing needle and a short wooden dowel. Much cheaper than buying a hook for anywhere from 10-25 bucks.

It's a good thing I poked my head in here. Greyhaunt, thanks for the tip on hand-tied wefts. I tried using my sewing machine, but it fell apart.

I'm not worried about how long it will take me, as long as her hair comes out great. I now need help with 2 more questions....Since I'm going to do the ventilating slip knot method, how do I do the part? and How do I make the pattern for the wig cap itself?, since I can't get the hair off the other one without ruining it. I didn't find anything that made sense to me...
