Face-up questions....

Postby Alopecia No Hime » Tue May 31, 2011 3:56 pm

So I'm getting ready to do Riven's first face-up since his eyes and wig are almost done. (Wig needed to be re-sewn to fit in the range his head is in.) And my mom bought me water color pencils at the flea market the other day. Brand spanken new water color pencils. I heard these were good but I was curious of it myself.

So....Can it be used? What other materials do I need to give him a good face-up? (I generally just want it to look sort of natural. A little blushing here some eye brows there. I may even change my mind when his eyes and wig arrive.)

Watercolor pencils are definitely okay for face ups! I use watercolor pencils and pastels primarily for my dolls' face ups, for both resin and vinyl. Example here, eyelashes, eyeliner, and eyebrow details are done with watercolor pencils, everything else is pastels. I prefer them for face ups because I think they have a more natural look. It's possible to get a natural look using acrylic paints, too, but I think it's easier to get a natural look with watercolor pencils and pastels. I also use sealer (of course) and gloss.

Hope that helps, and good luck~

I did my Bei's faceup all in watercolors. Its a lot easier especially for beginners, you have more control over a pencil at first then a brush.

They'll be fine, also you can use gloss for their lips or sparkles for eyeshadow. Pastels like Sorean said are good too, I think they also make a liquid chalk which is like pastels I suppose? I've never used it but I've heard of it and it sounds like it's nice.

I used the watercolor pencils a little while ago and Riven's first face-up is utterly adorable. It's very light but it's do-able until his wig and eyes get here. I am curious though...How would I be able to remove it should I decide to change it?

You can just take it off with a Mr.Clean eraser. Works like a charm.

Thanks again. I'll keep my eyes out for one just incase this isn't Riv's permanant face-up. It was nerve-wracking but turned out well.
