I'm looking at pics of poupees, Mignonettes, Bluettes, Bebes and other 19th century dolls and getting the urge to want one, especially because Mignonette was around tiny size. Then it hit me I have 3 tinies and a lady Dollzone I could make old fashioned clothes and stuff for.
Has anyone attempted any authentic looking Victorian stuff for their dolls? Have you adapted old patterns or made your own? Copied any old outfits or designed your own? Have you tried a presentation box? Any ideas what to put in one?

If you can get your hands on some old Doll Costumer magazines, they were chock full of ideas for golden era dolls. I'd love to see what you end up doing. None of mine want to dress in the 19th century style. Silly me, when I bought them, I thought I got to pick what they would wear!

I'll look for that mag. Right now Jibriel and I are looking for an era to start in, it seems that every 5 years high fashion had a major shift. I do know she'll be heavy in to black and gloomy any color can be echoed in a vest for Xavier. With a classy Victorian lady changing her clothes throughout the day no wonder dolls had so many outfits.

I saw you had that outfit on Ebay, VV, but I promised myself (threatened was more like it!) that I would not purchase any clothing/accessories for my Qian until I've heard back from Emory that he's ready to place the order . . . .

I stopped making extra clothes because I couldn't sell them either.
That could work for a fancy dress ball, that huge skirt does say 'romantic era'. Jibriel and I are starting to like the late 1870s-early 1880s between bustles era with the cuirass bodice and "fish tail" skirts. No hoops or bustles to worry about. Might sneak some dress reform outfits in there too, did see a lovely ca 1850s one on a lady playing croquet.

I actually really like some of the Pre Raphaelite and dress reform outfits. Hmmm, some of my dolls might wear those...

From what I gather the basic dress reform outfit is a fashionable bodice and skirt, or over skirt, to about the knees and loose trousers underneath. I was talking to KatyaR, the Dr Who fan, a bit about it as a Lady Doctor alternative. Incase one didn't want to be regular old #8 like the rest of the girls. Different than a bicycle suit though. Those are adorable outfits.
