Dead Files and dolls

Ok, with a name like Greyhaunt you have to realize I'm somewhat into the supernatural right? So Friday night is one of my ghosty nights where I indulge in watching the dipsticks of Ghost Adventures scare the crap out of themselves and do really stupid things like egg on demons and such. Well there is a new show on after that called Dead Files, where a retired cop and a medium investigate potentially haunted homes for people.

Keep in mind that while I like this stuff, I am 1/2 believer and 1/2 skeptic so I don't buy all that these shows are selling (so to speak) but damn, Dead Files last night was freaky! This woman's daughter, Salem (and I tell you, you are just asking for trouble if you are going to name your kid something like that!) is seeing ghosts in the house. And not only does the woman have a daughter - she has a house FULL TO THE BRIM with dolls. ALL KINDS of dolls. Gotz, porcelain, American Girl, smaller dolls, hell I even saw a Blythe in one of the shots in the house. I like dolls and I thought the place was creepy! Well the medium tells this woman that a part of the problem (other than all the potential deaths that may or may not have taken place there) is that there are too many dolls in the place and they are causing dead people to get trapped in them  According to the show the woman has been selling off dolls and the kid has been having less supernatural issues.

Great....now I'm looking at the dolls all over the place and thinking the first one that traps a dead person gets it's ass kicked hahahahahaha Hmmmmm....I wonder if a BJD would sell for more on Ebay if I claimed it had a dead person in it?

So, did anyone else see this episode, and what did they think about the doll/spook connection?

I've seen shows like that...like this one show where a woman had taken a doll out of a tree and taken it home and had paranormal experiences after...Well the doll was the cause.

Now if you find a doll dressed in expensive hand made clothess with it's hair still looking perfect in a freakin' tree near the grand canyon do you really need to take it home? Was my thoughts...I believe something was attatched to it not inside of the dolls. To me the dolls have their own little personalities and there's no more room for anything else. She brought it upon herself and possibly the kid could have very well welcomed it into her home.

I've had paranormal experiences...My house is for a better word haunted and on some days it felt like my AG dolls were watching me so I turn 'em over...My other dolls however...Nothing besides the little quirks that make them, them.

Momiji definitely has his OWN personality that fills that MSD container sufficiently. ^_~ All of my dolls do. Now the two random floating heads... neither one has eyes so they are just blank, empty shells to me. I haven't had issues with anything unwanted attaching themselves to my dolls, but then I'm also pagan and have done warding spells on the house anyway.

Oh, and my 1/6 obitsu is supposed to represent the Morrighan, one of my patron deities; so if she decides to 'inhabit' that one for a while, she is more than welcome. (Besides, she could kick the keister of any 'bad' things that tried to move in. Protective warrior goddess for the win!)

I've always had dolls around me and a few of them have spirits of their own but they're ones I've given them or allowed them to receive. I feel my guardian angel uses them as needed, I've only had Xavier for five years so he had to use something else previously. Any used dolls I've gotten feel cleansed of their past by the time they arrive and eager for their new lives to begin.

There are a few who make it to the ranks of spiritual figures but by in most they're dolls. And doll spirits come from a different place than living spirits. They can come and they can leave, a doll leaves my home the spirit that was in it is free to leave so there isn't any Toy Story going nuts in storage, they sleep, they rest, they recharge, and I've had a few take off. It's become evident with making heads that some get unsatisfied and want to be redone, a head I loved for years can suddenly "die". I also try my best not to hurt them, but I also toss them around a bit, on to the bed or in a storage tub, and do my best to keep a Muppet approach of occasionally treating them like ping pong balls and felt.

Yeah, my wife tends to watch a lot of those shows. Aside from Ghost Hunters, which I'll occasionally watch with her, I don't get in to it very much. I would imagine that a house with a good deal of clutter and chaos would be mentally difficult to live in, regardless of whether you attach any "paranormal" explanation to it. Personally, I don't think my dolls have "souls" or "life energy" in any form.

I've simply taken an "I don't know" approach to this sort of thing. I've never personally experienced any sort of "psychic" phenomenon, never met a "psychic" or "medium" that convinced me they were the real thing and I've never seen or in any way detected a ghost. Some years ago, I even worked for a local retailer that had a couple locations in the French Quarter in New Orleans. Both sites were supposedly haunted, one somewhat famously so, and I heard all kinds of stories about "ghostly encounters" and "paranormal events" that other employees, patrons and residences experienced. I kept a pretty open mind about the likelihood of having such an experience myself but nothing ever happened.

Why? (and you better be joking)

You want to piss off your church elders listen to some Led Zeppelin albums and read books about magick with a K.

I saw that episode, too, and was also creeped out by the sheer number of dolls she had EVERYWHERE. Woman didn't need to be on Dead Files. She needed to be on Hoarders.
I've lived in houses I believe were haunted. The one I've lived in for the past ten years is not and that is just fine with me. As far as the dolls being empty vessels I think most of us discover or assign characters to our dolls so technically they aren't empty.

Stick to the ones in manga/anime and making doll ones - the real ones are not the sort of thing to be mucked around with in any way shape or form.

Agreed....Watching Dead Files episode on Youtube....This women is really...Mean. I mean come on I don't believe for a second she's really talking to the dead rather then insulting this woman's collection...

Is it odd I could recognize some Taeyangs amongst the collection?
