identity crisis

So, you have your wonderful doll. You give her/him a home, a name, a personality, clothing, and all is good with the world. You're happy and your doll is happy.

And then...it happens. Perhaps it was a temporary wig change, or something as simple as changing their shirt. Maybe you just sat her down on a piece of furniture in a certain way. *Bam!* Suddenly your doll is a completely different character and you didn't mean for it to happen.

For me it has happened twice. With Azalea I knocked off her wig and saw her twin brother Asher looking at me. They are currently sharing a body, but will be split up as soon as I can get the second body here. (probably after tax season)

Then yesterday I realized that one of my alien gals had a sudden split personality. I considered buying a second doll, but decided to sacrifice her for the new one that wants to come out. Part of me feels bad to say goodbye, but I think she is going to be happier once the new character takes over. (reading emotions into an inanimate object- some people never grow up!)

Has it every happened to you? How did you handle it? Did doll version 2 take over? Did you buy a second doll to split the personalities? Do the two of them share the same body?

Evie is still a school girl, but now she refuses to wear the blue wig I got her and only wants natural hair tones, who would have thought!

Clover was supposed to be a member of Cassiel's family, but it turned out that Hujoo "apricot" skintone is paler than Obitsu "white" so that wouldn't have worked for the character anyway... then I put the Green Fairy Dress from a Cardcaptor Sakura doll on her, and Clover was born. Also, Clover was a sweet little baby fairy at the beginning, but as more dolliehs joined the family she developed an evil streak. (It has since been determined that there is a demon somewhere in her family tree... )

Prizm was supposed to be a BOY, but when I changed Cassiel to a soft bust body, I put Prizm's head on her old body... and Prizm let me know that she was actually a woman. And proved it by the amount of clothing she stole from the rest of the girls.

Marika's head was supposed to be a new head for Alex but the headsize was wrong for the body and I ended up giving her a weird faceup with a rune-sealed eye... and she told me that she was a ghost and needed a clear Obitsu body.

A 23cm Obitsu girl that I got remained silent and wouldn't reveal her personality to me... I ended up re-homing her to a friend.

Characters emerge from some interesting places. Maric is my most confusing fellow so far. I can't seem to really nail down who I want him to be. Yes, like you said, if I change things around with the doll his character seems to evolve as well. I'm not going to settle on anything until I can get a few photostories out of him and explore who the character is. (Maric is the Granado Boyd I bought back in May of this year.) Guy's been sitting around for a long time without a personality. Poor dude.

Rune was one of those sorts. He was originally ordered to be my dragon boy, Seona, but he arrived with almost an inch of his ear (RS Jun) broken off. While the replacement head shipped out to me, I modified the ears for practice, but what I ended up with was a whole new addition, and ended up having to buy another body for Seona. So I ordered a Wu, but then that head ended up being perfect for an RP character, so I had to buy another body for her.

when I first developed Josephine, my blue-haired nekomimi, she was supposed to be seriously shy and somewhat introverted and possibly prudish...and a clutz. Well...she's still a clutz, but now she's a tarty cosplaying nekomimi hahahahaha and she has no shame whatsoever!

I didn't consciously plan another doll to take on that prior personality, but eventually I bought an obitsu Megu head and realized that I now had Prudence - who is most of what Josephine was supposed to be except she's not a clutz, or a nekomimi.

You know, you could always have one doll with multiple personalities. Fyrsiel over in Junkyspot has a doll that I believe has at least three different personalities.

I've got a Tonner boy doll who thinks he's a drag queen. No matter what boy clothes I make him, or put him in he never seems to like them. As a joke I put him in girl's clothes once and now it's all I get from him when I pick him up. (I want a dress, gimme a dress!!!!) He probably won't be happy until he's in a custom made evening gown and clear heeled stripper platforms. If he were a real guy he'd be 6'5" and built like Goliath but NO he's just got to channel his inner Marilyn Monroe no matter how absurd it looks...

My Momiji is such a girly boy. (Which I hoped for, but...) He is my pretty pretty princess, has more clothes and shoes than anyone else and his most 'masculine' shirt is light blue and says 'sweet candy' on it. -_-; Fortunately he is cute and adorable and can pull off the girly look. Heck, my students refer to him as 'the gay doll'. ^___^

When I got Riou, he was intended to be a friend/bf for Momiji... but then Nagi started courting him... *sigh*

You want a really wacked out personality switch? Kiki's Omi was supposed to be kind and sweet!!!!!! (we all know how well THAT turned out)

Personally I think the original Omi went through a broken Star Trek transporter and got split into two versions like Captain Kirk did! One is the evil Omi and the other is Mamoru hahahahaha
