Friday the 13th

How is yours?

Mine sucks. I am having a lot of pain in my right shoulder (tendonitis) and upper arm PLUS I'm having cramps AND I just found out I have to work until 7pm tonight and work TOMORROW at 7am.

Did you know that the superstition of Friday the 13th being a bad luck day stems from the fact that it was on this day that the Knights Templar were arrested/masscred by order of the King of France in colusion with the Pope? Yep - that's why.

I'm sorry yours is so sucky Greyhaunt. :(

My mom came home early from work because of a terrible migraine which she has all the time. But I guess today's migraine is really bad.

It's Dexter Daze (like a festival sort of) today and tomorrow, so I enjoy going to that to look around and stuff, but it's so stinkin' hot!

I've also heard that those days are also when it was believed that the supposed barriers of the physical and metaphysical worlds were at it's weakest... and Halloween/Oct 31 being it's pinnacle - hence the need to dress up as monsters came about to supposedly blend in with said spirits and demons thought to be able to escape into our world.

My Friday's been like every other day, but then again, I didn't notice until about 2 hours ago... then forgot due to lack of caring. Only thing so far is that my 6 inch meatball marinara looks smaller than usual, for some reason =_=

Just long and boring, got some fabric bins to put the doll clothes in, asked them why they don't wear half the stuff and told the minis they have too much. Have a epilepsy support group thing tonight. 13 goes over well around here, has a lot to do with Xavier and his story.

I always thought it was because there were 13 at the Last Supper. But found something interesting... for a different cultural view:

Friday the 13th superstitions are rooted in ancient bad-luck associations with the number 13 and the day Friday, said Donald Dossey, a folklore historian and author of Holiday Folklore, Phobias and Fun.

The two unlucky entities ultimately combined to make one super unlucky day.

Dossey traces the fear of the number 13—aka, triskaidekaphobia—to a Norse myth about 12 gods having a dinner party at Valhalla, Norse mythology's heaven. In walked the uninvited 13th guest, the mischievous god Loki. Once there, Loki arranged for Hoder, the blind god of darkness, to shoot Balder the Beautiful, the god of joy and gladness, with a mistletoe-tipped arrow.

"Balder died, and the whole Earth got dark. The whole Earth mourned. It was a bad, unlucky day," Dossey said.

My wonderful coon-hound died early this morning. My mother is in Maine on a retreat and my husband is terribly sick. Yeah...this day is just sucking.

I'm terribly sorry to hear that Kitcat.

I'm not a superstitious sort of person so the day doesn't bother me one way or the other. On the local news/variety morning show they mentioned that the oldest know reference to 13 possibly being unlucky is a very ancient set of Egyptian laws that left out the number in the list.
