The place for those OT discussions that you just HAVE to share in a doll themed forum.

You know you're from (insert place here) when...your fave?

Okay, we've all seen those "You know you're from (insert where you live) when..." lists. So, in the interest of being nosy about the differences and similarities of all us Dollieh lovers, find your list, and list your favourite, or the ones you best thing represents the uniqueness of where you happen to call home! (Don't forget to list where you live! :D )

This is probably a Go-Nowhere thread, but I really would love to hear more about the little differences and similarities that the relative anonymity of the internet can sometimes wash away. Call it an experiment in checking out dollieh lovers in their natural habitats! ;)

I'll start, of course. :D

Pennsylvania:

1. You know exactly what to do when your mother tells you to "red up" your room.
2. You can use the phrase "fire hall wedding reception" and not even bat an eye.
3. You constantly refer to Pennsylvania as "PA" (pronounced Pee-ay). How many other states do that?

And in honour of my grandmother, I have been hearing this since I was a little girl:
4. The plural of "you" is "youns."

Come on, tell me what weirdness lurks where you live!

You know you're from New York when someone asks you where you're from, and when you reply New York, he or she automatically thinks New York City.

I think these things are amusing....

Let's see...some of my favorite for my state/city:
You know how to pronounce towns like Worcester, Haverhill and Cotuit
The Beanpot is a hockey tournament not a serving container
The numbers '78 and '86 make you cringe. (And I wasn't even alive!)
You went to the Swan Boats, House of Seven Gables, or Plymouth Plantation on a field trip in elementary school

You know you're from (Lancaster) PA ;) when you say "Outten the lights".
When two feet of snow falls outside and people are still trying to get to work.
When handmade Amish quilts and wooden furniture are considered works of art and displayed in art galleries accordingly.

You know you're an Alaskan when:

Moose in the driveway is an acceptable excuse for being late to work/school.

When the Texans start bragging about how BIG everything is down there, we threaten to split ourselves into 2 states and make them the 3rd largest state.

You have to explain the difference between Continental United States and Contiguous United States to businesses trying to overcharge you for shipping. And that yes, Alaska is in the United States, not a foreign country, not an island, nor is it connected to Russia by land.
Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.

I grew up in Sullivan County, New York (omg takahirokumiko, I get that one all the time)

You know you're from Sullivan County if your idea of sexy lingerie is flannel pajamas and tube socks.
You see people wearing hunting clothes to social events.
You know people who have hit deer... more than once.
You know all four basic food groups: deer meat, fish, beer and berries.
And a specific town in Sullivan County, call Livingston Manor, where everyone is related: You know you're from Livingston Manor if your family reunion becomes a town holiday.

You know you're from Illinois when:

You see LSD you think street, not drugs.
You measure distance by minutes.
Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow.
There is a Dairy Queen and Casey's general store in every town with a population of 1000 or more.
Mountains freak you out. (For me personal anyway.)
Abraham Lincoln is everywhere.
I'm mostly on Tumblr now.

More from IL

Your mom has pissed off Packers fans for showing her pride for The Bears. (*ahem* DA BEARS!)

When you see a bunch of people in Bears gear you have to yell "GO BEARS!"

Your granddad worked at Uno's (My grandpa did for years)

Your family laughs at the 'Uno's in Wisconsin Dells...And proceed to mock it..(This is just my family. XD; We're weird)

The Museum of Science and Industry is a right of passage.

You are damn proud of the fact the Burpee Museum of Natural History is your hometown's museum and with two near complete dinosaur skeletons.

Stormlight Ahhh!! You're not even an hour away from me!! I wonder if PA has dollieh meetups? I'd be SHUNNED because mine are all "Lookit my 1/6 anime customs".

Haha, I love everybody's so far!! It seems there are more similarities than I thought, which I love. Also, kenaiqueen, haha, the moose in the driveway gave me a good chuckle. And OkamiKodomo...your state has the deer problem too!?! Oh man, PA is HORRIBLE with deer getting run over. It's not uncommon to hear gunshots and no one freaks out because we all know it's just the cops putting a deer that's been run over out of it's misery. Sad to say it's that common that a gunshot at three AM elicits "Oh, must be another deer" instead of "OH GOD SOMEONE'S SHOOTING CALL THE POLICE!!". :?

I'll add another PA specific one!

You know you're from Utah when... I went and looked some more up as I could only think of a few. xD They make me laugh.

You can travel anywhere in the world and be asked the "are you Mormon question" the second they find out where you're from.
You know the difference between a ‘steak house’ and a ‘stake house’.
We also measure distance in minutes.
There are 2 seasons: Winter, and Road Construction.
Schools stay open, even if two feet of snow falls overnight, but close for the opening of hunting season.
The speed limit is 65, you go 75, and a mini-van passes you. (Mini-vans are evil!)
People still try to go 80+ in the 75 zone even when it's foggy/rainy/snowy.
People wear shorts and flip flops as soon as it hits above 40 degrees.
30% humidity is grossly muggy and almost unbearable.
You go trick-or-treating the day before Halloween if Halloween falls on a Sunday.
The 24th of July is almost as big of a holiday as the 4th of July.
Everyone you know took some kind of music lessons as a kid.
The elevation exceeds the population.

I found these because they're funny. Mountain=‘moun-uhn’.We drop our Ts a lot. XD
