Dark Tan or Dye?

So, my next doll is going to be a ResinSoul Dai head on a Gang body... The character is Native American, and I'm stuck in a debate. Do I request the dark tan resin.... or should I get a normal skin and dye him? I've had great success with the dye job on Seona, but I fear I won't be able to get a rich, warm color with the dyes available. On the other hand, I'm afraid the dark tan is going to be too dark, and then there's the matter of sanding marks, and discolorations, which would drive me crazy if they're insanely noticeable.

Any pics of just how bad the "variables" are, on those lovely dark tans?

If sanding marks bother you then do not get one of the dark tan/chocolate bobobie. First off you have to give them an intense scrubbing because they will have mold residue on them that will make them look really icky when they first arrive (experience talking here). Secondly they are more prone to scratching than lighter colors - and yes, you can see the sanding patches. you might want to consider the lighter tan as a base, however. It's sort of a milky coffee color and if you are thinking of dyeing would give you a good base to do so on.

So there is a mold residue... I'd been wondering about that. Seona had to get a scrubbing before he went into the dye, and my other white skins got cleaned before I did their face-ups.

Honestly I feel the coffee can pass for Native American at least from RS, have you seen the resin comparison photos before?

Yes, but the light tan is a bit too light, and a bit too "cool" of a brown... of course that could just be the photos I've seen. This is the thread I was using, http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showt ... oul-colors starting at post 18... Dye is probably my best bet, but I'll start with a light tan, as per suggestion.

Actually, the light tan is not that cool. Like I said, I think of it as being like coffee that has had quite a bit of milk added to it. And one thing I noticed with my light tan March is that she has "yellowed" into a much richer color than she was when I first got her. I really didn't like the tan much at first - but now when I look at her I love her Maybe you can try the coffee color and deliberately yellow it - ask Cirque how she's done it before. Much easier than dyeing, and you'll get a more even tone. And if it doesn't give you the result you want- then dye it!

And oh yea, the mold residue is definitely a Bobobie thing. I've had to scrub down every doll I've gotten from them. Doesn't stop me from buying them, mind you, but I'm always prepared with Mr. CLean Magic Erasers before they arrive hahahaha

Oh yes, magic erasers, replacement string, and new eye putty. I scrubbed my dragon boy for 3 hours before I got it all off... XD Though I did mix the leftover blue pastel dust from Seona into his putty, and it made it less sticky.

Well then that settles that. I'll get light tan. >3< So excited. I have $40 that I just scrounged up from two weeks of my fiance's dirty laundry... man never empties his pockets. The sad part? I return any $20 bills and larger that I find. But $10 bills and under is all MINE XD And he has a pile of change on his nightstand that I'm eyeballing. If I can get to my goal of $100, I can put him on layaway at denverdoll. -looks at the purdy red dress she made and ponders-

How is this project coming?? I'd love to see what you are doing as you go along. Mixing RIT colors can give some wonderful variations of darker skin tones. I mixed tan, tangerine and a little pink and got a wonderful deep bronzy color that I just love. Must get my act together with some pictures...

Oh I haven't started it yet. I have about half the money saved, but I went and put a DZ Annie on layaway instead... -facepalm- So I'm doing a divide and conquer strategy. XD Actually, I'm a 3rd party developer on IMVU and I sell the credits I earn to a registered reseller, and to keep myself from spending, I just hoard the credits. I have about 200k in credits that will resell for just under $80, so by the time I finish my DZ layaway, I should have enough to place my order.

Though I recently did dye a ResinSoul white skin with aquamarine, and I have a project thread for him. He's actually more or less complete now, I just have to get pictures.
