Zombie Elliot

Since I've developed a pretty severe allergy to my casting resin I've been playing around with different materials I can use to make my dolls. I've settled on a very durable plaster but the first casting had some fun flaws. I played up those flaws and turned the first casting into a zombie. Maybe I'm weird, I don't know, but I think he came out adorable.

He looks really good, plaster is a very dificult medium to play with. Sorry about your resin allergies, Ive heard that can happen. What resin were you using if you dont mind me asking, as there are quite a few brands out there and some are much less 'invasive' than others.

I had been using Alumilite. I beleive it's the "Part A" that's the problem. I had done a fair bit of casting at once and then started having a lot of problems with each subsequent use. I'm giving it a long rest but maybe in another few months I'll give it another try.

Alumilite is Ok, although not really the least 'toxic'. Problem is, once you develope an allergy, it usually does not go away and can get worse with each subsequent use. Have you tried Smooth-on products? They really seem to be one of the best as far as less toxic. I wouldnt really reccommend going back to Alumilite unless you really feel you need to, I dont think even time away will help if you have developed a severe enough allergy to it. Smooth-on 300 series is pretty good. Check out Smooth-on.com.
Also, you should were gloves and a respirator when using resin, and good ventilation.

Awesome zombie. I wish I had the time to attempt a sculpting project. I bought the stuff for it a year ago and never did anything with it. One of these days maybe I'll get around to it.

I've heard lots of good things about Smooth On from different craftsmen. Good luck with finding a new medium to work with.
