Project doll hujoo

I was looking at Blythe dolls with a dollie friend and they were all so cute and nerdy like that it made me want to customise a doll into a nerdy girl too. But since I don't have a blythe and won't have one for some months to come (In want a basaak I think or cce...reall Blythe is beyond my finances) I needed another doll, but which one?
Then all of a sudden I remembered my poor hujoo for whom I keep thinking up looks which never really "stick" long enough for me to do anything with it. Its a white basic hujoo..the one with the frown and BIG EYES.... She would be perfect!
And this time I was all cheers and exitment so I guess the idea stuck. And I went to work almost immediatly :D

Idea:

- Red/braun hair..mohair
- Eyes green size 20! (If I can find green ones at a resonable price else I'll settle for braun)
- Black nerdy glasses
- face-up with fregles frekkels...er...spelling?? <3
- oversized knit sweater (red)
- Plated skirt preferable checkerd fabric.
- majo
- legwarmers
- boots (became red sneakers)
- props: backpack and books

First I started a search on the internet for pricable nice red mohair. I figured it should be something like the mohair yarn I had laying on my desk... Then it struck me... if this was a project doll I should try and make a wig myself with the mohair I had which was in the right color already!
SO, I did :)

Image
step one: cutting off the toes of a nylon sock twice the size of the head of the hujoo. Cutting off bits of yarn (mohair) 44 cm in length to pull trough half way, make a knot then bull back at 5 mm distance from where it went in. Making 2 rows slightly to the right of the middle of the sock.

Image
Then making the same 2 rows on the other side. Here 1/3 done.

Image
All done! 2 sides and in the middle of those two I made more treads which go criss cross over the top to hide the sock from sight. And in front made some additional for the same purpose with some short ones to give her some stray hairs :)

Image
Inside of the wigcap/sock 3 rows of knots. and the extra length of the sock (remember I cut off twise the size of the head) goes over the knots to protect them so they wont catch on to the headcap of the hujoo. The wigcap is rather smooth but just to be sure...

Image
Hujoo with wig. Now I need to braid the two sides but its really thick so I have to think up a way to thin it out a bit without having the two sides give out lose hairs and maybe destroying the wig all together.

I'm very pleased at how the wig turned out :)

EDIT: Oh and I orderd some green eyes and red sneakers for her as well already. Sadly they will take some 2 weeks of getting here. But I can just work on her outfit and glasses in the meen time :P
