WIP Molly (LeekeWorld Mikhaila, x-posted)

Postby kurosu.chan » Tue Aug 13, 2013 7:49 pm

Sometime last year (or thereabouts) I bought a Leekeworld Mikhaila from Loralyn on DoA (hi there!). Even though Mikhaila was my dream doll, I unexpectedly went on a long hiatus almost immediately after getting her. Then I took some jewelry classes, and when those projects actually turned out like I wanted, I suddenly wanted to work on my dolls again! So then Mikhaila became Molly, and I'm starting this project thread to help me get back in the swing of things.

(I did think of starting the thread after I started the mods, so there are some things you don't get to see before pics of...)

First things first: I needed to sand off the huge casting seams. While I was at it, I randomly decided to separate her fingers and big toes...

Image

(Sorry her toes are blurry...I got a new camera, and I still don't understand it's macro setting )

...and then I was looking at pictures on DoA, and decided to pierce her ears, too.

The next things I have to do are:
dye her wig*
mod eyelids
faceup & blushing!!

There are a couple of things I have to decide...technically, I've already dyed her wig (like...an hour ago...), but I'll have to see what it looks like dry. Molly has red hair and lots of freckles. Tons and tons of freckles. I wanted her to have a very natural look, but I was having trouble finding a good "redhead" color for her wig that wasn't too carrot top-y, so I just kinda winged it. I might overdye with some brown if it's too orange.

I also kind of want her to have a tattoo... If I decide to do it, I'm going to do it in blue ink, and take the design from a celtic knot stamp I have...has anyone ever stamped a tattoo on a doll before? How did it work?

Though I personally haven't tried to stamp anything on a doll before, I would guess that pigment based ink would probably work better than dye based ink. :)

For sure. My problem would be getting the stamp to transfer detail. I wonder if I should just use thinned acrylics?

Her wig is dry!

Image

(Super dark photo...)

It's really bright in the sun...

I was really nervous, so I'm super excited it turned out so well. It's not the color I was hoping for, but it's really pretty. I think it might be a little to yellow to look very natural, though, so I might overdye, but I love the variation in color.

Next:

I think she might have had an eye mod done, so I may decide to do a little work on the eyelid crease.

Thank you! I finally bought mohair for a wig, and I love it so much! I used to think it was too expensive...but now I think at least one other doll is going to be rewigged with mohair.

Her eyelid mod is done! I scratched it out with the tip of a diamond file used for enlarging the holes in beads.

(I didn't notice the dust until I looked at the photo on the computer...)

Close up, because you can't really see it otherwise. It'll show up when I blush her, though, which is what I wanted. Now I can finally start the blushing!!

Finally got her blushing done! I decided to do her tattoo after all, too. Just a little teaser photo tonight, tomorrow I'll take better pictures.

I lied! She's not finished finished...

I redyed her wig last night

Image

I'd been looking at her eyebrows and decided that the wig looked too blonde.

I also ordered some Dika jointed hands from the marketplace on DoA...one pair for Molly, and one for another doll. We'll see if they fit ;)
