Shrinking a Head? Fixing warped viny?

Postby OkamiKodomo » Wed Feb 01, 2012 4:17 pm

I have 2 questions.

First, is it possibly to shrink Monster heads? I've heard of Barbies being shrunk in acetone.

Second, my Clawd arrived with a bent hand and a dent in his forehead from his sunglasses. How well does the boiling water method work to fix this?

You can try just a hair dryer heat as well as boiling water, the vinyl should return to its original state. As for shrinking the head? No clue, I have never heard of that before! I would think it would actually melt the head instead.

I actually don't own a hairdryer XD I haven't even had access to one since I moved away from home. But I found some info on it, and it worked like a charm on the hand, not so much the head. Brought the water to just below a simmer.

Zircon! Have you never read about me shrinking Moxie Teenz and Barbie heads in acetone? ^^

You can indeed shrink a vinyl head in acetone. It'll first blow up and get reeeeaaaally soft. Then when you take it out, it'll take a few days to dry up, shrink and become really hard. The softer the head is originally, the more it'll shrink. I have had a Clawdeen but I don't remember just how hard or soft the MH heads are.

I KNEW someone had done it here! Hah, thank you Evelien.

So then, it hardens too? Can you still get the heads back on the bodies with warming the vinyl? How long do you leave them in acetone for?

I never tried getting them back on their old bodies, so I really wouldn't know about that. I left the heads in different mixes (30% to 100% acetone I think) and for different periods of time. It's been too long for me to still know the details, but here's my old blog:

I hope you can visit the page as I got hacked once and I'm not 100% sure I got all of the bad stuff out of the code...

Still, the results will be different for every type of doll. You must not be afraid to experiment. ;)

Well, the Clawd head I have is perfect to experiment with. It's slightly damaged, and I have nothing else I want to do with it. XD

rofl.... yes I will document it. I have a few other projects I need to finish first, before I can get around to futzing around with experiments, but when I do, I'll be sure to share.
