Books are always fun as props... and they're relatively easy to make. The ones Noriko and Cyrene have here are strictly "bookshelf style" and don't open -- they're photo paper glued onto foamcore and chipboard -- but you could use a small cut portion of a scratch pad with a glued binding to make one with lots of real pages, or use two pieces of chipboard as front and back covers and paste tiny printed pages inside, so that the books can be opened... or if you're really ambitious, there's no reason you couldn't use actual bookbinding techniques, just on a very small scale.

Also, cacti definitely count as props. Petting them is not recommended, though.
