Question about stringing?

Postby littlesamuraigirl » Sat Dec 28, 2013 4:50 pm

Okay, so I was tightening the strings in my Resinsoul Gang and I noticed this wierd thing that happens - if I straighten his arms out and just barely touch them while they're straight, they snap into weird bent positions on their own. I've tried both loosening and tightening his strings and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Gillie's arms are the same way.

Also, my Gang's head is almost like...permanently tilted down, and I can't seem to get him to look up. Is there any way to fix this?

Are these things normal for Resinsouls or BJDs in general? Am I doing something incorrectly? Sorry, I'm just completely stumped >.< I've watched a dozen stringing videos on Youtube and read a ton of tutorials, but these issues were never talked about.

I'm not positive on this... but is it possible the elastic has gotten twisted inside? Also did you just tighten or did you replace the elastic they came with? The elastic that comes with BBB/RS is a little thin for what they need, thicker elastic is better. Some dolls are just 'kicky' for lack of a better term as well.

As for the head... some just do that... my Luts KDelf tends to cock his head to one side. Again, sometimes the elastic is twisted in a particular direction, that can contribute I think.

Snappy Resinsoul elbows are a norm. The elbow peanut is poorly designed. If you look at the way it was sculpted the inner elbow is really thin while the outer is a larger peanut. That thin section just can't seem to hold good tension. I think the round ball of the BBB elbow is actually a better functioning joint, it just lacks a realistic finesse. All of my RS dolls have frustrating, snappy elbows. The only fixes I've seen on forums are super suede jobs and/or wiring.

Loose strings with wiring AND sueding will fix that problem good. My RS boy Dai had that problem too, but now I can get his arms to hold in most any position.

My MSD Mei was the same way. She was really kicky in the arms (she stood like a champ though, once you got her legs straight), and wouldn't look up. She came strung super super tight, too.

I hot glue sueded her neck first, and she's able to look up now. Then I ended up hot-glue suedeing the rest of her joints and it's taken care of most of the kickiness. Her elbows still like to snap if I move her too fast, but I can get her into really natural positions if I take my time.
