Can anyone help my resin-deficient self? (DC Russell)

Postby MeltedCaramel » Wed Mar 12, 2014 1:31 am

Hey there everybody! Okay, anybody who hangs out on the 1/6 board probably knows I'm a little allergic to resin at this point in time. (Figuratively, not literally. ) However, of all things (of course), I fell in absolute LOVE with Doll Chateau's Spring Event doll Russell. I do not have $550 to drop on a BJD, nor do I think Doll Chateau would be the company I ultimately order my first resin BJD from, despite how gorgeous their sculpts are (so fey and otherworldly!). Now, what I AM willing to drop some dough for is the Russell doll, red or green or blank, doesn't matter, does anyone have any idea where to point someone like me who isn't exactly up to date on the resin side of our awesome hobby to find someone willing to part with their event doll for some moolah? :? I'm just literally lost on how to own this incredible doll, which I would dearly love to make part of my collection.

If anyone has general information on event dolls like this for future reference as well I would love to know anything you've all got to tell me! (Is there some procedure for people who don't necessarily want the Event itself but want a certain Event perk, like is there a thread/site/secret handshake for people who are getting the Event doll to resell it and people who are more than happy to buy that doll?)

I apologize for my hardcore resin failz everyone. At least I'm admitting I'm resin-stupid, honesty counts for something, right? Right....?

If this is the wrong forum, I completely apologize. I know I'm talking about a particular doll sculpt, but I'm also asking for general information, so it's kind of a mixed dollieh bag here. :?

Well, normally people who want the event doll without doing the event either a)get in on a group order with the price of the doll determined ahead of time by the partner, b)put out a "want to buy" on the marketplace, or c)wait until the event dolls start coming in and then watch the marketplace like a hawk for a seller. It's possible you might find someone here, but your best bet would probably be the DOA marketplace, if you have access.
You might want to also keep an eye on ebay and other doll selling sites. Every so often, Denver Doll will sell event pieces separately once the orders start coming in.

Good luck!

Seconding Quidam on the DoA market being your best bet. The event doll was only just released in... February? I think? And as I'm waiting on a DC order from December, I'm in the waiting room, and I can tell you now, they're still in the middle of November orders, and only just beginning some of the December ones, so it will be a good three months at least until you start seeing Russel showing up anywhere. That should give you time to get your post count up, if you don't have access yet. PM me if you need an invite. I'll give ones to active, and enthusiastic members of DS. Hang out in the Resinsoul discussion threads, you'll see a lot of us folks from DS over there, and poke around the workshops. It's less "clique-y"

Another option is to email Doll Chateau. I had heard a rumor kicking around that if there was enough interest in Russel, they might release him as a regular item, just without the special event paint job. It could have been a red herring, but you never know.

Okay, thank you both so much for the information. I figured it was going to be something like this "Watch DoA" ! Also, I know the doll is still extremely new and most definitely not "second hand ready" yet, but I figured I would ask sooner than later? (Insert cliche about early birds and worms here.) I thought about watching Ebay too, but then you'd get a separate post with "Who sells the real deal?" because...while I'm not as strict on recasts as many members here(nope, don't own any, never saw any, it's more a theory than a practice, I just don't believe in judging someone's personality by what kind of doll they own when human beings are such complex, wonderful creatures), I certainly can put out the $200-250-whatever for a real one and I certainly would rather support the companies.

Okami, thank you for the information on DoA. I know I've been kind of vocal about my feelings on that place (aha, I think you referred to it as "warding myself with crosses" ), so I really appreciate the tips on where to find DS members and which places are more open to honest discussion. <33 I will take both of your advice to heart and work on my post count, not to mention try to honestly and with an open mind integrate myself into the DoA community. I don't believe in judging everyone there by the reputation DoA has, and if there are parts of the community that are more open I would adore talking to more people! It's all dollieh to me. ;)

Also, I'm going to email DC for the heck of it. Might as well express my appreciation over their amazing, gorgeous sculpt if nothing else! :D

lol something like that! Really though, it's not as bad a place as all that. Just, if you see the elitism, go hang out in a different thread. That's all. :) I tried to post my Breakaway in the Minifee thread, but as soon as they found out he was on a ResinSoul body, he was... shall we say, politely ignored. It stung, but then I posted him in the RS mini thread, and they adored him there, so I felt better. It just stunk a bit because I asked how folks felt about hybrids there, and they were all enthusiastic. I posted him, got a few replies appreciating him, then someone asked what body he was on, because his mods make him hard to recognize, and then after that, nobody would respond to him, as though I hadn't posted at all. The workshops are great though, so much information, and nobody being snarky at all.

But yeah, definitely email DC and ask them if they plan on releasing Russel separately. I thought about wanting one, but I don't know what I'd do with one. I suppose it could be one of Zephyr's homonucli or golem, but just about any little critter could be one of those. XD

DC Russell is such cutie! When I saw it (him?), I knew that I'd have to order the DC dolls I have dreamed to own so I could have also Russell! (I plan to keep it/him, but if I don't bond properly, I'll let you know, MeltedCaramel. ^^)

Thank you both. ;) I'm trying to wait patiently to find this little guy! she_flame, if you don't bond I definitely wouldn't say no to owning him from a fellow DS member! <3 I'm sure you'll adore him though, I know I do! Normally I try and stay away from dolls that would look strange in clothing, etc, but this little guy is just....ahh, incredible!
