11cm sized headband?

Postby Trethowan » Fri Aug 22, 2014 11:04 am

Hey folks, what material do you think would work best to make a headband for a wee little 11cm chibi? I thought about bending wire but the wire would have to be firm enough not to bend back out of shape. I have an Azone headband for 50cm dolls, but I didn't see a wee sized one?

What do you think would work?

if you are handy with the sewing needle, get some small elastic cord from WAL-MART and various craft stores.
you can make a headband from it and leave it bare but for the decoration you probably intend to apply, run some small/fine lace along it's length to make it look prettier, or make a fabric sheath to run it through.

myself, i've made wedding garters for 27cm. dolls in this way, several times, using all the above techniques.
here's an example;

This is a pony tail scrunchie doubled on Richi's 2 inch head. I got a bag of them at Dollar Tree.

You're talking about those solid kind of head band shaped like a partial loop?

We talked about this on JS some time ago. Zirconmermaid talked about heating styrene strips to curve them. Since styrene is a thermoplastic it will hold the bend. PM her and ask for the details.

As K2! said, styrene plastic works great. You can get strips at a hobby store. I heated it in almost boiling water, wrapped it around a jar of the right size and then put it into cold water for a bit. Worked great! You could also try memory wire, the kind for making beaded rings.

Another thing I use is those thin plastic hair elastics, the ones that look like mini rubber bands? I usually use those as thin headbands for my dolls. I got one on my 27cm girl right now to hold her wig in place.

You already got plenty of answers, which are all probably better than mine, but I braided three strands of craft wire to make a sturdy yet semi-flexible headband thingy for Venias to keep his hair out of his face...
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

Well, actually no. Everyone has been super helpful but this seems to be the most simple craft so far. It wouldn't require buying anything. I already have wire (somewhere). I'll try several of these ideas. I'll go with yours first cause I've got the stuff. Well, somewhere. ha!

You guys rock!!
