Talking yourself out of a doll

That would be me during my first 3 years on returning to dolls. by now there's like 5 small dolls to one big one...You know... if don't buy those five lower range dolls you could afford a higher range doll.

...Ok I'm sorry, not helping much in the talking out of dolls bit. its a bit tough since I got the big ones I wanted and am kinda back to building up on smaller ones. Opps

That seems to be a common phenomenon: once you get over the initial stage of OMG DOLLIEHS!!!1 you become more careful what you spend your money on. I've definitely noticed myself going that direction. Unfortunately, an expensive doll also means higher shipping costs, and (in my case) import charges on top of that... and then suddenly the price is more like 20 cheap dolls than 5. :/

That, and I really like making unexpected goodwill finds. :)

I think my entire Dollzone family costs the same as one "high end" doll and all it's trappings. I've enjoyed looking for the "cheapest" doll possible and when you need retail therapy a $5 Dr Gibb feels just as good as a $200 Phantom. Dr Gibb actually feels better because I can play with him more without having to worry about breaking him.

Sometimes I feel it's just a momentary obsession and while I dream about all the things I'd do with the new doll I also try to remember that I've gone this long without it. The want and need end also kicked my doll making in to gear as I was able to load up on several headless bodies for a reasonable price. A few characters like Sherlock, Watson, and Jimmy needed special bodies but the bulk of them have done fine on the others.

I do this a lot. I decide one doll is too expensive, then find myself spending that same amount of money on several cheaper dolls instead. Although, it's not a bad thing for me, because I actually prefer having several cheaper dolls instead of one really expensive one. The doll hobby is a little addicting for me. ;)
