Barbie Dream Besties Info

Postby Jobee » Tue Nov 19, 2024 11:17 am

Barbie Dream Besties leaked at the beginning of this year, and released this summer. The first wave has 4 dolls, Malibu Barbie, Brooklyn Barbie, Teresa, and Renee. A second wave is coming out around Christmas with Daisy and Ken.

Here's what I've learned from binge watching reviews on Youtube.

Their head sculpts are strikingly similar to Ever After High g2, when everyone got smiles.

They have 11 points of articulation, like Monster High g1.

They have their own unique body and foot sculpts, different from Barbie, Monster High, and Ever After High. Nobody else is a perfect fit, but Barbie can wear BDB clothes, but Barbie clothes might be too big on BDB dolls, and the shoes are not a match either. They can wear some Rainbow High, but again, it's not an exact match.

They don't come with stands, but they fit fine on those cheapy plastic Amazon stands that you can buy in bulk.

There is a web series that goes with them. Episodes are 3 minutes long. The thumbnail stills don't look good, but if you watch a few episodes, it grows on you. They also have 2 minute long music videos.

Renee Unboxing Pics

Renee still in the box

The box art on the back, super pretty! Wish they went with this style instead of 3D.

Image
Renee on the back card. There is so much extra plastic holding everything in place, it's not funny.

Image
Renee out of the box! She's a bit taller than the other girls in the line. Like Abbey Bominable height, I think.

Image
Close up on her face, I think I got a good one. Her bangs are a little wonky, but at least her eyes aren't!

Here's Malibu Barbie, from Barbie Dream Besties, NIB.

Here's Barbie's back card, with her bio. Career oriented, as usual.

Barbie on her back card, and a closer look at her accessories. Unboxing them is a real pain.

I have Teresa on order from Amazon but I got to see them at Wallys the other day. I def liked her face best and the Malibu Barbie second. (It was tough to pass on buying her.) I hope I can find something that fits decently because as much as I like Teresa's face, I dislike her outfit. I can always sew if I have to. Thanks for the unboxing pics. It was nice to get a close up of the details.

I can't wait to get Teresa and Brooklyn! Though I'm prolly gonna wait, maybe until next year. I try not to buy myself dolls in December because Christmas is coming.

I'd be very interested in a body comparison between this and similar scale dolls.

Requiem, who I buy doll patterns from, did a blog post with A Dream Besties Renee and many other dolls. But Renee is 1cm taller than all the rest of the Dream Besties line.

Caved and bought Malibu. A like a lot of her, but not those opera gloves with Daisy Dukes. Trying to decide if I made the gloves fingerless, that maybe they'd look better? Or take off the rosettes? Not pleased with her hair either. The back is so messy and I'm tempted to wash the crunch out of the pink streaks. However, unboxing was much better than the usual. If they could just put in one head staple tho! 3 was overkill. But no tape; just tabs to pull out.

BTW, she was $19.97 at our Wallys, plus tax, but our Visa card company has a thing going on that offers you $10 off when you use it enough, so she came to 11.17. Nothing like a great deal!

Yeah, I wasn't thrilled with her outfit either, so I made her a new one. But making clothes is the easiest part for me.

Got my Malibu unboxed and undressed, washed her hair and redressed her. Just happened to have a dress the same color as her gloves. The bust is a little big, but the stand is helping to hold it tighter. I took the rosettes off off the gloves. What a pain to take on and off! Not really happy with her hair, but hair is my greatest failing. I may try a boil perm.

She insisted her name is Missy after Sheldon's twin sister's name.
